11708802 · 2023-07-25 · ·

A fuel management system to improve accuracy of calibration data to convert an output value of a fuel gauge into a remaining amount of fuel in a fuel tank includes a fuel tank mounted on a hull of a marine vessel, a fuel gauge to measure a liquid level position of fuel in the fuel tank, and a controller configured or programmed so that in a range where an output value of the fuel gauge changes, measurement reference points are set based on the output value of the fuel gauge. When supplying fuel to the fuel tank, the controller is configured or programmed to obtain calibration data showing a relationship between the output value of the fuel gauge and a remaining amount of the fuel in the fuel tank by comparing an amount of fuel supplied to the fuel tank at each of the measurement reference points and the output value of the fuel gauge at each of the measurement reference points.

A method and a system for controlling a propulsive power output applied to a propeller shaft of a ship. If a current value of a propulsive power of a propulsive power source equals or falls below a lower power limit value, and/or if a current value of an operational parameter reaches a first/lower parameter limit value, a control unit is configured to: increase a power output of an internal combustion engine of the propulsive power source. Thus, operation of the engine below a lower power limit is avoided.

Method And System For Controlling A Two Stroke Engine Based On Fuel Pressure

A method and system for operating a two-stroke engine includes a fuel system comprising a fuel pressure sensor, fuel temperature sensor and a fuel injector and a controller in communication with the fuel pressure sensor and fuel temperature sensor. The controller controls the fuel injector with a fuel pulsewidth determined by determining a beginning time of a window for measuring fuel pressure, determining an ending time of the window, measuring fuel pressure between the beginning time and the ending time, determining a fuel pulsewidth based on the fuel pressure and fuel temperature and injecting fuel into the two-stroke engine in response to a desired fuel mass.

Engine systems, vehicles and methods related to refueling in conjunction with infrastructure to vehicle communication. A vehicle or engine system may receive refueling information including a fuel quantity at a refueling event, and uses the refueling information to identify and/or eliminate measurement or modelling bias in the underlying engine system controls. The vehicle may also self-determine fuel efficiency. The vehicle may use charging data, rather than refueling data, to perform calculations of battery life, state of charge, state of health, and efficiency in electric vehicle examples.

Multi-fuel system and method

A method provides for operating an engine configured to use a plurality of differing fuels. The method includes determining a fuel combustion ratio of the plurality of differing fuels associated with at least one engine cylinder of the engine based at least in part on one or more of a plurality of characteristic profiles. This maintains one or more of a plurality of actual values associated with usage of the plurality of differing fuels relative to defined corresponding threshold values. The fuel combustion ratio includes a ratio of the plurality of differing fuels to be delivered to the at least one engine cylinder. A fuel delivery system delivers the plurality of differing fuels to the at least one engine cylinder based on the fuel combustion ratio.

Systems and methods for optimizing vessel fuel consumption

An optimum engine configuration is determined, based on a predicted required power, for a seafaring vessel having a plurality of thrust engines. The predicted required power is determined by inputting vessel operational data, environmental data, and voyage data to a required power model. At least some of the vessel operational data and environmental data is received from a plurality of sensors positioned onboard the vessel. The optimum engine configuration is selected from a plurality of candidate engine configurations. Each candidate engine configuration includes a specified number of thrust engines running and a specified power output level of each thrust engine. The optimum engine configuration is selected based on a candidate total predicted fuel consumption of each candidate engine configuration. The candidate total predicted fuel consumption amount is determined as a sum of the engine-specific predicted fuel consumptions determined for each running thrust engine of that candidate engine configuration.
