The present invention refers to a piston for an internal combustion engine, particularly a V-engine. The piston comprises an oil drainage groove provided in the outer circumferential surface of the piston between a ring belt and a piston skirt of the piston, the piston skirt being provided with two recessed pin boss portions on opposed sides of the piston, wherein the piston skirt is further provided with at least one oil drainage duct arranged between the two recessed pin boss portions at an outer surface of the piston skirt and configured to fluid-communicatively connect the oil drainage groove with the recessed pin boss portions.
Piston comprising a piston head cooled by splash lubrication
A piston of an internal combustion engine may include a piston head, a piston hub and a connecting rod having a joint end connected via an articulated connection to the piston hub. A reservoir may be provided and configured to receive splash oil for cooling the piston head. The reservoir may include at least one splash outlet directed towards the piston head. The reservoir may be arranged at the joint end of the connecting rod on a side facing towards the piston head.
ONE PIECE CAST FERROUS CROWN PISTON FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A one-piece piston having an investment or other permanent or non-permanent mold/die precision cast piston crown, rod flange and piston skirt. The piston crown has a relative constant thickness, a flange requiring minimal machining and a skirt providing for a wall with a support against the angular shifting of the piston. This improves the distribution of heat within such crown and the angular stability of the piston wall at the piston rod connection.
PISTON HAVING AN UNDERCROWN SURFACE WITH INSULATING COATING AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF
A vehicle internal combustion piston and method of construction thereof are provided. The piston includes piston body extending along a central longitudinal axis, having an upper combustion wall forming an upper combustion surface and an undercrown surface opposite the upper combustion surface. An annular ring belt region depends from the upper combustion surface, a pair of skirt panels depend from the ring belt region, and a pair of pin bosses depend from the undercrown surface to provide laterally spaced pin bores aligned along a pin bore axis for receipt of a wrist pin. The undercrown surface forms a central undercrown surface, and a portion of either an open outer cooling gallery, a sealed outer cooling gallery, or an outer galleryless region, wherein an insulating coating is applied to at least one of the portions of the undercrown surface.
LIGHTWEIGHT POWER CELL UNIT
A power cell unit may include a piston assembly having a piston crown and a piston skirt. The piston crown may include a ring belt portion extending circumferentially about a combustion bowl and at least one boss portion extending downward from the combustion bowl. The power cell unit may also include a connecting rod having an elongated portion and a funnel portion, and at least one piston pin configured to connect the connecting rod with the piston assembly. A bottom surface of the at least one boss portion may engage with a corresponding surface of the funnel portion such that a gas load is substantially transferred directly from the piston crown to the connecting rod during downward motion of the piston assembly, and such that only inertial loading from the piston crown and/or piston skirt is transferred to the piston pin during upward motion of the piston assembly.
Piston for large sized internal combustion engine
A piston for internal combustion diesel engine having a piston diameter of 180 to 650 mm, includes a top part and a body part connectable to each other, the top part defining, when installed in a cylinder of the engine, the piston side of a combustion chamber, and the body part having an aperture for a gudgeon pin, bosses for distributing forces, when in use, between the piston and the gudgeon pin, the body part having an interior, an outer surface and operable connecting surfaces. The interior of the body part includes an interior wall having a macro geometry of wavy surface, where a wave has a length of 3 to 25 mm and a height of 0.3 to 3 mm, the wavy surface having a micro geometry measurable as a surface roughness of 5 to 9 μm.
Piston of internal combustion engine
A piston of an internal combustion engine includes a crown portion; a pair of thrust-side and counter-thrust-side skirt portions; and a pair of apron portions connecting the thrust-side skirt portion with the counter-thrust-side skirt portion. Each of the pair of apron portions includes an upper end wall connected with the crown portion, and a pin boss portion supporting a piston pin. A reverse-surface-side portion of the crown portion is formed with a hollow portion extending along an outer surface of the upper end wall of the apron portion. The upper end wall of the apron portion includes a bending portion between an outside surface of the pin boss portion and a circumferential end of the skirt portion. The bending portion bends in a step-like manner from the outside surface of the pin boss portion toward the circumferential end of the skirt portion.
MONOLITHIC GALLERYLESS PISTON AND METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION THEREOF
A galleryless piston for an internal combustion engine and method of construction thereof are provided. The piston has a monolithic piston body extending along a central longitudinal axis. The piston body has an upper wall forming an upper combustion surface with first and second portions, with the first portion extending annularly along an outer periphery of the upper wall and the second portion forming a combustion bowl. The upper wall has an undercrown surface on an underside of the combustion bowl directly opposite the second portion of the upper combustion surface. The undercrown surface has an openly exposed surface area, as viewed looking along the central longitudinal axis, thereby providing an expansive area against which oil being splashed or sprayed can freely contact to cool the piston.
Asymmetric piston
Exemplary pistons and methods of making the same are disclosed. An exemplary piston may include a crown defining a combustion bowl and a ring land extending circumferentially around the combustion bowl. Exemplary pistons may further include a skirt supporting the crown. The skirt may include a pair of pin bosses defining a pin bore configured to receive a piston pin, and two opposing skirt supports defining surfaces configured to slide along a cylinder bore surface. The skirt supports each define a different radial stiffness.

A piston for an internal combustion engine comprises a skirt defining an inner space of the piston and having a skirt bottom; and a target arranged under the skirt bottom to engage with a passage detector arranged in the engine. The target is supported by a holding body held at least partially inside the inner space of the piston. The present disclosure likewise relates to an engine comprising such a piston.
