10174731 · 2019-01-08 · ·

The disclosure relates to internal combustion engines in general and may be applied to a high pressure pump for a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine. In some embodiments, the pump includes: a pump housing including a piston guide and a plunger guide bore; a piston for compressing a fuel, the piston guided in the piston guide; and a roller plunger including a plunger skirt and a roller, the roller plunger transferring a translational movement from a cam of a camshaft driven by the internal combustion engine to the piston. The plunger skirt may include an outer region directed away from the roller and symmetrical about a plane of symmetry and an overall mass distributed asymmetrically about the plane of symmetry.

Injector

An injector includes an actuator arranged in an actuator space, a piston guide having a bore hole, and a piston arranged in the bore hole. The piston has a first end face facing the actuator and delimiting a first space in and/or on the bore hole, and a second end face lying opposite the first space and delimiting an adjoining second space in and/or on the bore hole. The piston is arranged between the first and second spaces, and a gap extends around the circumference of the piston between the piston and the bore hole. The piston includes a first material and the piston guide includes a second material, the first and second materials having different thermal expansion properties such that when the piston guide and/or piston are heated, the gap width of the gap decreases to limit fuel leakage between the first space and second spaces.

Fuel injector

A fuel injector (100) for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The fuel injector is particularly suitable for use as a dual fuel injector, and comprises a generally tubular outer valve needle (130), an inner valve needle (140) slidably received in the outer valve needle (130), and a nozzle body assembly (112) comprising a tip part (120) and a needle guide part (118). The tip part (120) defines a seating region (120f) for the outer valve needle (130), and the needle guide part (118) comprises a guide bore (118e) for slidably receiving the outer valve needle (130). In one embodiment, the tip part (120) and the needle guide part (118) are made from different materials, and a biasing spring (148) for the outer valve needle (130) is housed in the nozzle body assembly (112).

The present invention relates to a fuel injector configuration that treats a dielectric fluid such as gasoline fuel with strong electric and, optionally, magnetic fields to form a homogeneous charged fuel or fuel/air mixture for combustion in an internal combustion engine. The electric field is supplied by a triboelectric dipole and the magnetic field is supplied by permanent magnets. Small charged fuel particles are produced and combust more readily than untreated particles. Fuel efficiency is increased and emissions are reduced.

Injection valve

An injection valve for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine comprises a valve seat, a valve element, at least one injection opening formed in the valve seat and leading to the combustion chamber, the at least one injection opening opened or closed by a stroke motion of the valve element, a catalytic coating provided in a region of the injection valve which faces the combustion chamber, and at least one protuberance which is elongated in a direction of the combustion chamber and projects into the combustion chamber.
