Compressor including inlet guide vanes
An illustrative example embodiment of a compressor includes an inlet defining an intake passage, a plurality of lateral inlet guide vanes in the intake passage, and a plurality of medial inlet guide vanes in the intake passage. The lateral guide vanes are selectively oriented to alter an amount of fluid flow through a first, lateral portion of the intake passage. The medial inlet guide vanes are selectively oriented to alter an amount of fluid flow through a second, medial portion of the intake passage.
Compressor train start-up using variable inlet guide vanes
A method for operating start-up of a compressor train is disclosed. The train includes a driver machine and at least a centrifugal compressor drivingly coupled to the driver machine. The centrifugal compressor in turn includes a plurality of compressor stages and at least a first set of variable inlet guide vanes at an inlet of one of the compressor stages. The method includes at least partly closing the first set of variable inlet guide vanes; when the first set of variable inlet guide vanes is at least partly closed, starting rotation of the centrifugal compressor and accelerating the centrifugal compressor up to a minimum operating speed; opening the at least one set of variable inlet guide vanes to increase the gas flow through the centrifugal compressor once the minimum operating speed has been achieved.
Brake system for a compressor
A heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system includes a compressor having an impeller configured to rotate and drive a working fluid through a working fluid circuit of the HVAC system in an active operating mode. The HVAC system further includes a controller configured to, in response to receiving an input indicative of a transition to operate in an inactive operating mode, suspend the active operating mode by interrupting a supply of power to the compressor, adjust pre-rotation vanes of the compressor, a variable geometry diffuser of the compressor to a first position, or both to enable a backflow of the working fluid through the compressor for a first interval of time, and, after the first interval of time has elapsed, adjust the pre-rotation vanes, the variable geometry diffuser, or both to a second position to block the backflow of the working fluid through the compressor.
Turbo Compressor Assembly
A turbo compressor assembly, a vehicle including such a turbo compressor assembly, and a method for manufacturing such a turbo compressor assembly. The turbo compressor assembly includes an air intake channel, a compressor wheel, an insert unit and an actuator unit. The air intake channel is configured to draw air to the compressor wheel and the compressor wheel is configured to rotate for compressing the drawn air from the intake channel. The insert unit is arranged between the air intake channel and the compressor wheel and configured to control an airflow to the compressor wheel. The actuator unit is connected to the insert unit and configured to move the insert unit at least partially along the air intake channel.
INLET GUIDE VANE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY
An inlet guide vane assembly for a centrifugal compressor includes a plurality of guide vanes, a drive structure coupled to the plurality of guide vanes, an actuator; and an actuation mechanism. Rotation of the drive structure is transitions the plurality of guide vanes from a first position to a second position. The actuation mechanism causes the drive structure to transition the plurality of guide vanes between the first and second positions based on operation of the actuator. The actuation mechanism imparts a first amount of rotational force to drive the drive structure when the guide vanes are in the first position, and a second amount of rotational force when the guide vanes are in the second position. The actuation mechanism provides a mechanical advantage to the actuator when the guide vanes are in the first positions as compared to when the guide vanes are in the second position.
COMPRESSOR INCLUDING AERODYNAMIC SWIRL BETWEEN INLET GUIDE VANES AND IMPELLER BLADES
An illustrative example embodiment of a compressor includes an inlet defining an intake passage, a plurality of inlet guide vanes, an impeller, and a plurality of swirl nozzles. Fluid flow through the plurality of inlet guide vanes into the intake passage is selectively adjustable to control fluid flow through at least the portion of the intake passage downstream of the swirl nozzles. The impeller includes a plurality of blades and directs fluid from the intake passage toward an outlet. The swirl nozzles have outlets positioned downstream of the plurality of inlet guide vanes and upstream of the impeller. The swirl nozzles are configured to introduce fluid into the intake passage to cause swirl of fluid in the intake passage between the plurality of inlet guide vanes and the impeller.
