The method (1000-1004) includes determining (1100) that the generator (42) is not operating in a power generating mode, and operating (1200) the rotor (18) to move around a predefined desired angular orientation (α.sub.des) with respect to the axis (30) of rotation in an alternating fashion.
AZIMUTH SENSORS IN WIND TURBINES
The present disclosure relates to methods for determining reliability of an azimuth measurement system in a wind turbine. The methods comprise measuring loads with load sensors during operation and determining in-plane moments with rotor rotational speed frequency of one or more blades based on the measured loads. The methods further comprise measuring an azimuthal position of a wind turbine rotor. The method also comprises determining that the azimuth measurement system has reduced reliability if an angular phase of the in-plane moments deviates from the measured azimuthal position by more than a first threshold value. The present disclosure also relates to wind turbine systems incorporating azimuth measurements and methods for on-line determination of correct functioning of azimuth sensors.
CONTROL OF A MULTI-ROTOR WIND TURBINE SYSTEM USING LOCAL MPC CONTROLLERS
Control of a multi-rotor wind turbine system. A local controller is arranged for each wind turbine module and implementing a local model predictive control (MPC) routine. A central controller is arranged to determine a set of operational constraints of the wind turbine modules. Based on a current operational state of the wind turbine module and the set of operational constraints, one or more predicted operational trajectories are calculated and used for controlling the wind turbine module.
Enhanced Wind Turbine Wake Mixing
Method of controlling a wind turbine comprising a rotor comprising at least a first blade, the method comprising the step of varying an induction factor of the first blade over time by dynamically changing a pitch angle of the first blade over time between a first pitch angle and a second pitch angle while the first blade is rotating, wherein the first pitch angle is different from the second pitch angle, and wherein the dynamic change of the pitch angle over time is controlled such that the respective rotational position of the first blade at which the first blade is at the first pitch angle and the respective rotational positions of the first blade at which the first blade is at the second pitch angle are displaced in time and the varying induction factor of the blade occur at different angular positions in the rotor plane over time, such that a location and/or direction of a wake formed downstream of the wind turbine is dynamically changing with respect to the rotor of the wind turbine.
STOPPING A WIND TURBINE ROTOR BASED ON STORED PITCH ANGLE SIGNAL
The present invention relates to control of a wind turbine in a stop process in response to a rotor stop signal. The rotor stop process comprises the steps of prior to receipt of the rotor stop signal, generating a stored pitch angle signal by storing pitch angle signals for at least a fraction of a rotor revolution, and determining at least one periodic component of the stored signal. The rotor blades of the wind turbine are controlled towards a feathering position using a pitch control signal containing the at least one periodic component.
STOPPING A WIND TURBINE ROTOR USING PRE-SET PITCH RATES
The present invention relates to control of a wind turbine in a stop process where a stop controller is used to pitch the blades at a number of pre-set pitch rates including a first pitch rate and a second pitch rate. The stop controller is arranged to access desired pitch angles of the stopping process and add an envelope band to the desired pitch angles. In the stop process, pitching at a selected pitch rate among the number of pre-set pitch rates is performed, and the pitch rate is changed according to criteria to keep the pitch value within the envelope band.
Wind turbine and method for detecting and responding to loads acting thereon
A method for operating a wind turbine for generating electrical power from wind, wherein the wind turbine has an aerodynamic rotor with a rotor hub and rotor blades of which the blade angle is adjustable, and the aerodynamic rotor can be operated with a variable rotation speed, and the wind turbine has a generator, which is coupled to the aerodynamic rotor, for the purpose of generating a generator power, wherein the generator can be operated with a variable generator torque, comprising the steps of: determining a loading variable which indicates a loading on the wind turbine by the wind, and reducing the rotation speed and/or the generator power in a loading mode depending on the loading variable, wherein at least one force variable that acts on the wind turbine is used for determining the loading variable or as the loading variable.
Individual pitch control for wind turbines
A method of controlling pitch of individual blades in a wind turbine is described, together with a suitable controller. Wind speed is determined as a function of azimuthal angle. Wind speed is then predicted for individual blades over a prediction horizon using this determination of wind speed as a function of azimuthal angle. The predicted wind speed for each individual blade is used in a performance function, which is optimized to control individual blade pitches.
Wind-turbine tower to blade-tip measuring system

WIND TURBINE POWER GENERATION SYSTEM
In a vertical rotor apparatus that rotates in response to a moving fluid, a shaft defines an axis of rotor rotation. Rotor blades are longitudinally aligned in parallel with the shaft and each rotor blade defines an axis of blade rotation. A sensor generates a signal when any of the rotor blades are within rotor azimuthal angles of blade stall regions. A controller generates blade pitch information for the blade stall regions and an actuator, which is mechanically coupled to each of the rotor blades, alters blade pitch about the axis of blade rotation in accordance with the blade pitch information.
