Turbine rotor blade root with hollow mount with lattice support structure by additive manufacture
A turbine rotor blade root is additively manufactured and includes a shank having a radially extending chamber defined therein. A blade mount is at a radial inner end of the shank. The blade mount has a hollow interior defined therein with the hollow interior in fluid communication with the radially extending chamber. A lattice support structure is disposed within the hollow interior of the blade mount.
Air turbine starter with shaped vanes
An air turbine starter comprising a housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a flow path, a turbine having a rotor with circumferentially spaced blades extending into the flow path, a drive shaft operably coupled to and rotating with the rotor, and at least one vane located within the flow path, upstream of the blades. The at least one blade being defined by an acute axial angle and an acute tangential angle.
Vortex hybrid rocket motor
Various embodiments of a vortex hybrid motor are described herein. In some embodiments, the vortex hybrid motor may include a combustion zone defined by a fuel core and/or motor housing. The combustion zone may include an upper zone and a central zone that each contribute to thrust created by the vortex hybrid motor. In some embodiments, an injection port configuration is described that includes a proximal injection port that may be controlled for modulating a delivery of an amount of oxidizer for adjusting an oxidizer-to-fuel ratio. In some embodiments, a fuel core configuration is described that provides radially varying gradients of fuel in order to achieve desired thrust profiles. In some embodiments, the fuel core may include a support structure and/or a proximal end of a nozzle of the vortex hybrid motor may extend into the fuel core.
TURBINE ENGINE WITH CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR HAVING IMPELLER BACKPLATE OFFTAKE
A gas turbine engine includes a fan, a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine. The compressor compresses gases entering the gas turbine engine. The combustor receives the compressed gases from the compressor and mixes fuel with the compressed gases. The turbine receives the hot, high pressure combustion products created by the combustor by igniting the fuel mixed with the compressed gases. The turbine extracts mechanical work from the hot, high pressure combustion products to drive the fan and compressor.
COMPONENT FOR A TURBINE ENGINE WITH A FILM-HOLE
An apparatus and method relating to a film-hole of a component of a turbine engine comprising including forming the hole in the component and applying a coating to the component such that the coating fills in portions of the film-hole.
Turbine rotor blade with integral impingement sleeve by additive manufacture
A turbine rotor blade is additively manufactured and includes an airfoil body with a radially extending chamber for receiving a coolant flow, a tip end at a radial outer end of the airfoil body, and a shank at a radial inner end of the airfoil body. The radially extending chamber extends at least partially into the shank to define a shank inner surface. An integral impingement cooling structure is within the radially extending chamber. The integral impingement cooling structure allows an exterior surface of a hollow body thereof to be uniformly spaced from the airfoil inner surface despite the curvature of the chamber. The turbine rotor blade has impingement cooling throughout the blade.
Root lightening holes with slot
An airfoil includes a dovetail root having a base. A grooved slot is disposed in the base and a plurality of root lightening cavities is disposed in the grooved slot.
AIR TURBINE STARTER WITH SHAPED VANES
An air turbine starter having a housing, a turbine, a drive shaft, and at least one vane. The housing having an inlet, an outlet and a curvilinear flow path extending between the inlet and the outlet. The at last one vane is located within a portion of the curvilinear flow path, and includes an outer wall extending between a root and a tip in a span-wise direction and between a leading edge and a trailing edge in a chord-wise direction. In one aspect, the vane is arranged to define an acute axial angle that is non-constant in the chord-wise or span-wise direction. In another aspect, the vane is arranged to define an acute tangential angle that is non-constant in the chord-wise or span-wise direction.
Turbine rotor blade with platform with non-linear cooling passages by additive manufacture
A turbine rotor blade is additively manufactured and includes an airfoil body with a radially extending chamber for receiving a coolant flow. A platform extends laterally outward relative to the airfoil body and terminates at at least one slash face. A cooling circuit is within the platform and is in fluid communication with a source of the coolant flow. Cooling passage(s) are in the platform and in fluid communication with the cooling circuit. The cooling passage(s) extend in a non-linear configuration from the cooling circuit to exit through the at least one slash face of the platform, providing improved cooling compared to linear cooling passages.
