Method for operating a power plant
A method for operating a power plant having a gas turbine, a heat recovery steam generator, a steam turbine, an auxiliary heat source, and a control system, wherein the method includes controlling the power plant such that the heat recovery steam generator receives an input of heat from the gas turbine; determining the gas turbine is operating at its maximum capacity or at an upper end of its control range and the power plant is operating at less than a target value for a power plant capacity; determining a target pressure value immediately upstream of the steam turbine, wherein the target pressure value is derived from a primary pressure for the steam turbine and a steam turbine capacity for the steam turbine; based upon the target pressure value, controlling the heat store to release heat into the heat recovery steam generator to achieve the predefined power plant capacity.
System and method for inhibiting particulate and foreign object ingress in combustion systems
A method for inhibiting particulate ingress in a combustion system includes acquiring particulate ingress data, determining a probable particulate ingress location on an air inlet of the combustion system in dependence upon the particulate ingress data, and deploying a filter screen at the determined probable particulate ingress location to inhibit particulate ingress at the determined probable particulate ingress location.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR OPERATING AN ENGINE TO PREVENT HIGH POWER ENGINE SURGES
Methods and systems for operating an aircraft engine having a compressor are described. The method comprises determining, based on actual operating parameters of the aircraft engine, a compressor mass flow limit for an aerodynamic stability of the aircraft engine; determining an actual compressor mass flow of the compressor of the aircraft engine, wherein the actual compressor mass flow is based on measured values of the aircraft engine; comparing the actual compressor mass flow to the compressor mass flow limit; and governing operation of the aircraft engine to cause an alternative compressor mass flow when the actual compressor mass flow reaches or is anticipated to reach the compressor mass flow limit.
MASS FLOW INTERPOLATION SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DYNAMIC COMPRESSORS
A method for determining a mass flow of a dynamic compressor that does not include a mass flow sensor while the compressor is operating to compress a working fluid includes determining, by a processor, a current operating point of the compressor. If the current operating point is the same as one in a map of a plurality of predetermined operating points stored in a memory, the mass flow of that predetermined operating point is retrieved as the mass flow of the current operating point. Otherwise, the processor calculates the mass flow at the current operating point from the mass flows of a subset of the predetermined operating points nearest the current operating point. The dynamic compressor continues to operate to compress the working fluid based at least in part on the calculated mass flow rate for the current operating point.
AN APPARATUS FOR OPTIMAL LOADSHARING BETWEEN PARALLEL GAS COMPRESSORS
A gas compressing system including a plurality of n compressors connected in parallel. Each compressor has a suction line connected to a common suction manifold and a discharge line connected to a common discharge manifold configured to deliver compressed gas to a downstream load. The system also includes a process controller configured to control an average speed of the compressors based upon a discharge pressure in the common discharge manifold or a discharge flow through the common discharge manifold. The system further includes an adaptive load sharing optimizing controller configured to determine the speed of each compressor in the plurality of n compressors. A method of controlling a gas compressing system is also provided.
Aircraft engine lubrication circuit and method, using a non-return pressurisation valve with two plugs
A non-return valve with twin plugs is connected to a fluid reservoir and equipment that can receive a small overflow quantity essentially in the gaseous state from the reservoir. This occurs when the primary valve is open. In the case of a larger overflow essentially in the liquid state, the openings are switched over to evacuate the overflow to another outlet branch of the non-return valve, without it being transferred to the equipment. The invention is useful in an oil lubrication circuit, in which a hypothetical fuel leak into the oil could cause the oil reservoir to overflow into the non-return valve and in which a significant flow of liquid to the equipment must be avoided; oil outlet through the other branch of the outlet can remain in a reservoir provided with a drain system.
METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE GEOMETRICAL CONFIGURATION OF A VARIABLE GEOMETRY ELEMENT IN A GAS TURBINE ENGINE COMPRESSOR STAGE
The method can include determining a mass flow rate W of working fluid circulating through the compressor stage, determining a control parameter value associated to the geometrical configuration of the variable geometry element based on the determined value of mass flow rate W; and changing the geometrical configuration of the variable geometry element in accordance with the determined control parameter value.
ROTARY MACHINE SYSTEM
A rotary machine system includes: a rotary machine including a gas seal portion; a gas seal device connected to the rotary machine and that supplies a seal gas to the gas seal portion; and a connecting pipe that connects the gas seal portion and the gas seal device. The rotary machine includes a casing through which a working fluid flows; a rotatable rotary shaft; and the gas seal portion that seals the working fluid by the seal gas having a pressure higher than a pressure of the working fluid in the casing. The gas seal device includes: a seal gas supply pipe through which the seal gas delivered to the connecting pipe flows; a pressure regulating valve provided in the seal gas supply pipe and that adjusts the pressure of the seal gas supplied to the gas seal portion; and a control part.

In an embodiment, a system includes a gas turbine controller. The gas turbine controller is configured to receive a plurality of sensor signals from a fuel composition sensor, a pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, a flow sensor, or a combination thereof, included in a gas turbine engine system. The controller is further configured to execute a gas turbine model by applying the plurality of sensor signals as input to derive a plurality of estimated gas turbine engine parameters. The controller is also configured to execute a flame holding model by applying the plurality of sensor signals and the plurality of estimated gas turbine engine parameters as input to derive a steam flow to fuel flow ratio that minimizes or eliminates flame holding in a fuel nozzle of the gas turbine engine system.
