In accordance with at least one aspect of this disclosure, there is provided a method of accelerating a gas turbine engine. The method includes adding torque to a core of the gas turbine engine to accelerate rotation of the core by controlling fuel flow to a plurality of fuel injectors of the gas turbine engine. The method also includes adding torque to the core by powering an electric machine that is operatively connected to the core. In embodiments, controlling fuel flow to the plurality of fuel injectors is based on feedback from the electric machine.

A method for controlling a gas turbine assembly includes: a compressor in which compression of the outside air occurs for producing a flow of compressed air; a sequential combustor including a first combustor, in which combustion of a mixture of fuel and compressed air arriving from the compressor occurs for producing a flow of hot gasses, and a second combustor which is located downstream of the first combustor and in which combustion of a mixture of fuel and hot gasses arriving from the first combustor occurs; an intermediate turbine in which a partial expansion of the hot gasses arriving from the first combustor occurs; and a second combustor in which combustion of a mixture of fuel and hot gasses arriving from the intermediate turbine occurs; the method further includes, on a start-up transient operating phase of the gas turbine assembly, the step of controlling the fuel mass flow-rate supplied to the first and/or the second combustor on the basis of the flame temperature inside the first combustor.

Methods and systems for determining an engine temperature for a gas turbine engine are provided. An estimated combustor temperature is determined based on at least one operating condition of the gas turbine engine and an estimated vane mass flow. A corrected vane mass flow is determined based on the estimated combustor temperature, the estimated vane mass flow, and a combustor pressure. The corrected vane mass flow is compared to a reference vane mass flow to obtain the mass flow correction factor. When a condition associated with the mass flow correction factor is not satisfied, the estimated combustor temperature is adjusted based on the mass flow correction factor to produce an adjusted combustor temperature; and the mass flow correction factor is updated based on the adjusted combustor temperature. When the condition associated with the mass flow correction factor is satisfied, the estimated combustor temperature is assigned as the engine temperature.

Water heater blower housing, impeller, and static tap system

A blower has a blower housing of clamshell construction, including two housing members having a scroll back wall molded with radial draft, an impeller and a motor within the housing, and a static tap connected to the housing. The impeller has a backplate with a backplate back surface region of substantially the same radially converging shape as that of a front surface region of the scroll back wall formed by the radial draft, providing a substantially uniform axial gap between the backplate back surface region and the scroll back wall. The impeller has a ring connected by a skirt to the back plate to define a stepped area behind the ring. The impeller includes impeller blades extending forwardly from the impeller backplate and the ring and back fins extending rearwardly from the ring. The blower has a scroll width of about twice an impeller exhaust width.

MASS FLOW INTERPOLATION SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DYNAMIC COMPRESSORS

A method for determining a mass flow of a dynamic compressor that does not include a mass flow sensor while the compressor is operating to compress a working fluid includes determining, by a processor, a current operating point of the compressor. If the current operating point is the same as one in a map of a plurality of predetermined operating points stored in a memory, the mass flow of that predetermined operating point is retrieved as the mass flow of the current operating point. Otherwise, the processor calculates the mass flow at the current operating point from the mass flows of a subset of the predetermined operating points nearest the current operating point. The dynamic compressor continues to operate to compress the working fluid based at least in part on the calculated mass flow rate for the current operating point.

An engine bleed control system for a gas turbine engine of an aircraft is provided. The engine bleed control system includes an engine bleed tap coupled to a fan-air source or a compressor source of a lower pressure compressor section before a highest pressure compressor section of the gas turbine engine and a motorized compressor in fluid communication with the engine bleed tap. The engine bleed control system also includes a controller operable to selectively drive the motorized compressor to boost a bleed air pressure as pressure augmented bleed air and control delivery of the pressure augmented bleed air to an aircraft use.

A gas compressing system including a plurality of n compressors connected in parallel. Each compressor has a suction line connected to a common suction manifold and a discharge line connected to a common discharge manifold configured to deliver compressed gas to a downstream load. The system also includes a process controller configured to control an average speed of the compressors based upon a discharge pressure in the common discharge manifold or a discharge flow through the common discharge manifold. The system further includes an adaptive load sharing optimizing controller configured to determine the speed of each compressor in the plurality of n compressors. A method of controlling a gas compressing system is also provided.
