The body portion and the flow path surface define at least a portion of a flow path extending through the engine. The body portion and/or the flow path surface include an impact region including hybrid composite plies including one or more metallic tows. A gas turbine engine including the fan platform and methods for forming the fan platform are also disclosed.
Environmental barrier coating
An article includes a ceramic-based substrate and a barrier layer on the ceramic-based substrate. The barrier layer includes a matrix phase and gettering particles in the matrix phase. The gettering particles with an aspect ratio greater than one are aligned such that a maximum dimension of the gettering particles extends along an axis that is generally parallel to the substrate. The barrier layer includes a dispersion of diffusive particles in the matrix phase. A composite material and a method of applying a barrier layer to a substrate are also disclosed.
TURBOMACHINERY HOUSING WITH VARIABLE LATTICE DENSITIES
A housing for a rotary machine includes a support sleeve extending along a central axis of the rotary machine, a volute portion defining a duct in the housing, and a variable lattice structure in an interior of the housing. The variable lattice structure includes a first region of the housing having a first lattice structure and a second region of the housing having a second lattice structure. The second lattice structure of the second region is denser than the first lattice structure of the first region. The second region is a deflection region, a stress region, or an energy containment region of the housing.
