Circumferential Seal Assembly with Multi-Axis Stepped Grooves
20230220872 · 2023-07-13 ·

A circumferential seal assembly suitable for forming a thin film between a rotatable runner and a sealing ring is presented. The assembly includes an annular seal housing, a rotatable runner, an annular seal ring, and a plurality of groove structures. Each groove structure includes a groove and an optional feed groove. The groove includes at least two adjoining steps defined by base walls arranged to decrease depthwise. Two adjoining base walls are disposed about a base shoulder. Each base shoulder locally redirects a longitudinal flow to form an outward radial flow in the direction of the annular seal ring. The base walls are bounded by and intersect a pair of side walls. A side wall includes side shoulders which narrows the groove widthwise and locally redirects the longitudinal flow to form a lateral flow in the direction of the other side wall. Outward and lateral flows separately or in combination enhance stiffness of a thin-film layer between the annular seal ring and the rotatable runner.

HIGH-SPEED PERMANENT MAGNETIC MOTOR ASSEMBLY
20170338716 · 2017-11-23 ·

A high-speed permanent magnetic motor assembly generates a magnetic field to produce mechanical output power. The assembly comprises a motor, a motor housing, and a radial bearing block. A motor housing supports a rotor and the radial bearing block with a left radial aerostatic bearing, a right aerostatic bearing, and an axial thrust aerostatic bearing. The bearings are porous aerostatic bearings that use a low-viscous vapor-liquid two-phase fluid as a lubricant, which penetrates through a porous bushing. The liquid vaporizes from pressure reduction, and part of the liquid arrives at a clearance between each of the bearings and the rotor. The liquid of the two-phase fluid is vaporized during discharge along an axial direction from the bearing. This increases the vapor in the clearance, improve a bearing capacity, retain position accuracy of an aerostatic bearing, and cool the aerostatic bearings and the rotor.

SPLIT-TYPE SWING ANGLE ADJUSTABLE AEROSTATIC BEARING DEVICE FOR ROTOR STATIC BALANCE, AND AIR FLOTATION SUPPORT DEVICE FOR STATIC BALANCE OF ROTATING RING-SHAPED PARTS
20220056954 · 2022-02-24 ·

The present disclosure provides a split-type swing angle adjustable aerostatic bearing device for rotor static balance and an air flotation support device for static balance of rotating ring-shaped parts, the split-type swing angle adjustable aerostatic bearing device for rotor static balance and an air flotation support device for static balance of rotating ring-shaped parts belong to a field of static balance detection, and aims to solve a problem of low measurement precision of rotor and realize static balance of rotating ring-shaped parts. A gas mold, having a certain bearing capacity, is formed between an outer surface of the air flotation support cover under the bearing base and a concave surface of the upper base, so that the bearing base is floated to realize an automatic centering of the rotor static balancing device.

BEARING

A bearing includes a bearing pad for supporting a rotary component and a housing attached to or formed integrally with the bearing pad. The housing includes a flexible column extending towards the bearing pad for providing the bearing pad with an airflow. The column supports the bearing pad from a location inward of an outer periphery of the bearing pad along an axial direction of the bearing. With such a configuration, a resistance of the bearing pad along a radial direction of the bearing is less at the outer periphery than a resistance of the bearing pad along the radial direction proximate the column.

HYDRODYNAMIC CARBON FACE SEAL PRESSURE BOOSTER

Aspects of the disclosure are directed to a system associated with an engine of an aircraft, the system comprising: a fluid source that is configured to provide a fluid at a first pressure value, a carbon seal, a seal plate that includes at least one lift-off feature that interfaces to the carbon seal, and a pressure boosting mechanism configured to obtain the fluid from the fluid source, increase the pressure of the fluid to a second pressure value, and provide the fluid at the second pressure value to the at least one lift-off feature.
