THRUST BEARING CAGE WITH PILOTING FLANGE

A thrust bearing cage includes a piloting feature to radially locate a thrust bearing with respect to one of the shafts. Specifically, the bearing cage includes an axial extension at an outer diameter that extends beyond the rollers and around an outer diameter of end of the shaft. This feature permits elimination of a washer.

A cage for a thrust bearing, comprising: a first plurality of circumferentially aligned pockets arranged to accept a first plurality of roller elements; a second plurality of circumferentially aligned pockets located radially inward of the first plurality of pockets and arranged to accept a second plurality of roller elements; a plurality of pairs of circumferentially extending protrusions; and a plurality of openings. Each opening in the plurality of openings: passes through material forming the cage and wholly surrounded by the material forming the cage; and is located between a respective pair of protrusions in a first circumferential direction.

RADIAL ROLLER CAGE WITH CENTERLINE GUIDANCE

A cage for a radial bearing assembly with rolling elements is provided. The cage includes a first and second rims, and webs extend between the rims to define pockets that receive rolling elements. Each of the webs includes first and second rolling element guide surfaces that face a first adjacent one of the pockets and third and fourth guide surfaces that face a second adjacent one of the pockets. These guide surfaces are located at a pitch circle adapted to coincide with a centerline of the rolling elements located in the pockets. The webs have first and second radially inner retention tabs that respectively face the first and second adjacent ones of the pockets. The first retention tab is located axially between the first and second guide surfaces and the second retention tab is located axially between the third and fourth guide surfaces. The retention tabs are located radially inside the pitch circle.

A thrust bearing assembly comprises a cage including an annular portion. A first flange extends axially from an inner peripheral edge of the annular portion, and a second flange extends axially from an outer peripheral edge of the annular portion. A first plurality of roller pockets are defined by the annular portion, the first roller pockets of the first plurality of roller pockets being spaced evenly about the annular portion. A second plurality of roller pockets are defined by the annular portion, the second roller pockets of the second plurality of roller pockets being evenly spaced about the annular portion so that each second roller pocket is disposed between adjacent first roller pockets.

High-speed bearing

A roller bearing includes a first race, a second race, and a cage disposed between the first and second races. The cage has an inner rim and a plurality of webs extending radially outboard from the inner rim and being circumferentially arranged around the inner rim to be spaced apart to define pockets. The webs have flanges that extend axially. Portions of the inner rim form inner guide surfaces of the pockets. The cage further includes a wavy outer rim circumscribing the inner rim. The outer rim has radially outer portions attached to the flanges and radially inner portions forming outer guide surfaces of the pockets. The outer rim and the flanges cooperate to define cutouts interleaved with the webs. Cylindrical roller elements are disposed in the pockets between the first and second races and have first ends adjacent the inner guide surfaces and second ends adjacent the outer guide surfaces.

CAGE FOR A ROLLER BEARING FOR ROTATIONALLY MOUNTING A HIGH-SPEED SHAFT

A roller bearing for rotationally mounting a high-speed shaft, such as a shaft for a turbocharger, includes a cage. The cage has two rings and a plurality of connecting elements and cavities for the rolling bodies. The connecting elements extend axially between the cage rings, and the cavities are located between the connecting elements. The cage is made from a metallic material and is formed according to a shaping method, wherein two tangentially adjacent ends of the cage are interconnected in a material fit.

Thrust roller bearing

A thrust roller bearing includes rollers, a cage that holds the rollers in a manner that allows the rollers to roll, and a washer including a raceway surface on which the rollers roll. The washer includes a raceway portion that has the raceway surface and is disposed on a first axial side of the cage, and hook portions that extend toward a second axial side. Each of the hook portions includes a first projecting portion that extends toward the second axial side from the raceway portion, a second projecting portion that extends radially toward the rollers and toward the second axial side from an end portion of the first projecting portion on the second axial side, and a third projecting portion that further projects radially toward the rollers from an end portion of the second projecting portion on a side opposite to the first projecting portion.

Bearing cage including hydrodynamic feature

A thrust bearing cage including an improved lubrication feature is disclosed. The thrust bearing cage includes a first rim and a second rim with a plurality of crossbars extending therebetween to define rolling element pockets. Each crossbar of the plurality of crossbars includes: a first radial flange extending from the first rim; a second radial flange extending from the second rim; and a medial radial flange connecting the first radial flange and the second radial flange. The medial radial flange is axially offset from the first radial flange and the second radial flange. At least one of the first radial flange, the medial radial flange, or the second radial flange includes a protrusion defining at least one ramped surface. The ramped surface creates a hydrodynamic effect, which guides the thrust bearing cage away from an adjacent surface, and ensures that a lubricated state is maintained.
