The shim (5) comprises a back surface (12) having a top edge (14) and first and second side edges (16, 17). Further, the back surface (12) of the shim (5) contains a pressure region (13) that is configured to be pushed on by the brake piston (11) or by the caliper finger (20) upon brake application. The shim (5) further comprises a plurality of cutouts (19, 19′, 19″) for noise reduction. The plurality of cutouts (19, 19′, 19″) is arranged at least partly between the pressure region (13) of the back surface (12) of the shim (5) and the top edge (14) of the back surface (12) of the shim (5). Method for manufacturing friction material

A method for manufacturing a friction material containing a friction modifier, a fibrous material and a binder as raw materials is provided. The method includes a step of mixing and agitating the raw materials by low frequency acoustic agitation. A content of the fibrous material in the friction material may be 1 mass % or more and 50 mass % or less. The content of the fibrous material in the friction material may be 3 mass % or more and 40 mass % or less.

A friction material for a brake pad comprises a fibrous base material without a metal fiber, and comprises a binder and a friction modifier. The friction material comprises 0.3% to 2.0% by weight, relative to the entire friction material, of a non-crosslinkable polyolefin having a melting point higher than the melting temperature of the binder. The friction material can suppress increase in friction coefficient of a friction material during initial brake operation and reduce the occurrence of abnormal effects and squealing in low-temperature and high-humidity environments.
