System and method for controlling vehicle components during a power downshift

A transmission for a vehicle having a prime mover with an output shaft. The transmission includes an offgoing clutch that is selectively connected to the output shaft, and a controller in communication with the prime mover. The controller includes an offgoing clutch control module that determines an offgoing clutch torque profile at the start of a torque phase in a power downshift that does not exceed a predetermined offgoing clutch energy threshold and a torque request module that limits a rate of input torque into the transmission from the prime mover based upon the determined offgoing clutch torque profile.

A torque transmission device for a motor vehicle includes at least one motor, a first output shaft rotationally coupled to an output element of a first clutch and to an output element of a second clutch, the first output shaft to drive a first wheel of the vehicle, a second output shaft rotationally coupled to an output element of a third clutch and to an output element of a fourth clutch, the second output shaft to drive a second wheel of the vehicle, opposite the first wheel, a torque transfer mechanism to transmit the torque from the motor to an input element of the first clutch and to an input element of the fourth clutch with a first gear ratio, and to transmit the torque from the motor to an input element of the second clutch and to an input element of the third clutch with a second gear ratio.

Hybrid vehicle

A hybrid vehicle capable of selecting between a state where a clutch coupling an engine and a motor is engaged and the vehicle travels by drive power of the engine, and a state where the clutch is released and the vehicle travels with the engine stopped, wherein, if there is a request to restart the engine while the engine is rotating after control to release the clutch and stop the engine has been started, then upon the condition that the engine number of revolutions is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold value, and in a state where the output torque of the motor is limited to a previously established torque or less, control to increase the transmission torque capacity of the clutch is implemented, whereupon the output torque of the motor is increased to a torque that cranks the engine.
