Sealing apparatus and sealing structure

A sealing apparatus includes: an annular reinforcement ring around an axis; and an annular elastic body part around the axis, which is attached to the reinforcement ring and is formed of an elastic body. The elastic body part has: a side lip, an intermediate lip, and a grease lip. A grease as a lubricant is applied to respective inner peripheral side surfaces of the side lip, the intermediate lip, and the grease lip. A thickener of the grease includes no urea-based thickener. In a usage state of the sealing apparatus, a cross sectional area of an inter-lip space enclosed by the side lip, the intermediate lip, and a hub ring is equal to or greater than 3.5 mm.sup.2.

A shaft seal arrangement (6) is provided to engage the shaft (4), such that at least a first seal chamber (6a) is delimited between adjacent seal lips (6′) and the shaft (4). A first lubrication arrangement is provided for circulating a first lubricant through the first seal chamber (6a). The first lubrication arrangement (7) further comprises a first lubricant heat exchanger (7e) arranged at least partly outside of the shell structure (2) for conducting the first lubricant therethrough and for transferring heat from the first lubricant to an outside environment of the shell structure (2). A propulsion unit for a marine vessel, including a shell structure, a shaft rotatably coupled to a propulsion motor inside the shell structure, and a propeller coupled to the shaft outside the shell structure. A shaft seal arrangement is provided to engage the shaft, such that at least a first seal chamber is delimited between adjacent seal lips and the shaft. A first lubrication arrangement is provided for circulating a first lubricant through the first seal chamber. The first lubrication arrangement further includes a first lubricant heat exchanger arranged at least partly outside of the shell structure for conducting the first lubricant therethrough and for transferring heat from the first lubricant to an outside environment of the shell structure.

Seal arrangement and seal element with a high-pressure side flushing function

A seal arrangement includes a first and a second machine part which are arranged spaced apart from one another with the formation of a sealing gap and can be moved relative to one another about a movement axis. A seal element with a base section is arranged on or in a seal holding structure of one of the two machine parts. A sealing head bears in a dynamically sealing manner by way of a sealing section against a sealing surface of the respective other machine part in order to seal a high-pressure side from a low-pressure side. The seal element on the high-pressure side has at least one flow element, wherein during relative movement of the two machine parts fluid on the high-pressure side in the area of the sealing section of flows onto the sealing head.

The end plates and/or the ring include force generating elements that generate force to separate the ring from the end plates, reducing contact related heat generation and wear.
