SYSTEM AND METHOD WITH BOIL-OFF MANAGEMENT FOR LIQUEFIED GAS STORAGE
A system and a method with boil-off management for liquefied fuel storage are provided. The system includes a cryotank for storing a liquefied fuel, a pump for providing and compressing a first stream of the liquefied fuel, a heat exchanger for provide cooling duty to the first stream of the liquefied fuel, and an expansion valve for expanding the first stream of the liquefied fuel after the heat exchanger into a multiphase stream comprising a liquid phase and a gas phase. The multiphase stream has a temperature lower than an initial temperature of the first stream from the cryotank. The system further comprises a liquid-vapor splitter for separating the liquid phase and gas phase in the multiphase stream. The liquid phase is returned into the cryotank.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRANSFERING AND COOLING A COMPRESSED FUEL GAS
A method and apparatus for cooling a compressed fuel gas during transfer of the gas from a source vessel to a receiving vessel. The method includes receiving a portion of the fuel gas from the source vessel in an intermediate vessel. Then, fluidly isolating the intermediate vessel from the source vessel. Work is then extracted from the fuel gas by causing or allowing expansion of the fuel gas, thereby cooling the fuel gas. Finally, the cooled portion of fuel gas is released from the intermediate vessel to the receiving vessel.
DEVICE FOR SUPPLYING FUEL AND VEHICLE COMPRISING A DEVICE OF THIS TYPE
The invention relates to a device (10) for supplying a fuel consumer (1) of a vehicle (20) with a gaseous fuel. The device (10) comprises multiple pressure accumulators(2) for storing and providing pressurised fuel, as well as a discharge device (3), which fluidically connects the multiple pressure accumulators (2) with the fuel consumer (1). In order to advantageously allow for a utilisation of a temperature change occurring during a fuel discharge, preferably a discharge cold temperature released during the discharge of fuel, according to the invention, the discharge device (3) is thermally coupled to a coolant circuit (4) of the vehicle (20). The invention also relates to a vehicle (20) comprising a device (10) of this type.
CRYOGENIC CONTAINMENT SYSTEM
A cryogenic fluid containment system is disclosed. The system can store a fluid such as hydrogen at a cryogenic temperature and pressure. As the fluid naturally warms, boil-off fluid is produced by the fluid and can be directed to a backup power system that is configured to consume the boil-off fluid. The boil-off fluid being extracted from the cryogenic fluid containment system causes additional boil-off fluid to be generated from the fluid and refrigerate the fluid within the cryogenic fluid containment system. Additionally, the boil-off fluid can be monitored over time such that as the boil-off fluid accumulates within the storage tank, a boil-off controller can determine whether the boil-off fluid is to be extracted from the storage tank. The boil-off controller can enable the fluid to be maintained below a pressure threshold within the storage tank.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REFUELLING A COMPRESSED GAS PRESSURE VESSEL USING A COOLING CIRCUIT AND IN-VESSEL TEMPERATURE STRATIFICATION
A pressure vessel refuelling system enables fast fill refuelling of CNG fuel tanks by inducing a stratification of gas temperatures inside a tank during refuelling, then re-cycling a portion of the relatively warmer gas out of the tank during refuelling and back to a gas chiller. The system includes a pressure vessel having a lower end, a first gas port and a second gas port, wherein the second gas port is positioned above the lower end of the pressure vessel; and a cooling circuit connecting the first gas port with the second gas port; whereby gas flowing from an interior cavity of the pressure vessel through the second gas port is cooled in the cooling circuit before returning to the pressure vessel through the first gas port; and whereby a temperature of gas inside the pressure vessel varies from a first temperature at a level of the lower end of the pressure vessel to a second temperature, which is higher than the first temperature, at a level of the second gas port.
GAS STORAGE APPARATUS AND METHOD
The present invention relates to a gas storage apparatus and method, and more specifically to liquid air energy storage and its use to facilitate both Demand Side Reduction (DSR) and the use of reduced-cost electricity by industrial compressed-air users. A related electricity generating apparatus and method is also disclosed. The apparatus and method use a first sensible heat coolth store and second latent heat coolth store to first reduce the gas in temperature and then to change it into a liquid phase. Coolth top up devices are also disclosed.
