A refrigerator includes a cabinet with one or more food compartments and one or more doors closing the food compartments and an ice maker located in the cabinet to produce ice. The ice maker includes a mold body for forming ice, the mold body having multiple cups, where each cup has an opening for receiving water to be frozen within the cup. The mold body is divided into at least a first zone and a second zone and the ice maker including at least a first heater and a second heater configured to provide heat to the first and second zones of the mold body, respectively, and a controller configured to harvest ice from the first zone independently of the second zone by actuating the first heater to provide heat to the first zone of the mold body to facilitate a release of ice from the first zone.

An instant freezer apparatus able to freeze consumable fluids and food having a freezing point lower than water is disclosed. The apparatus and method of the present invention is directed to a freezer typically able to instantly freeze consumable fluids and food without altering their chemical compositions. The instant freezer apparatus generally comprises a main frame and a removable freezing module. The apparatus may further comprise a freezing fluid injection system such as a liquid carbon dioxide tank or a liquid nitrogen tank fluidly connected to the main frame. At least two freezing cells comprising the fluid to be frozen may be included, the freezing cells being independently removable from the freezing module and other freezing cells. A semi-flexible mat for receiving and supporting varying shapes of freezing cells may be included.

According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a method for controlling a refrigerator, the refrigerator including an ice mater including a first tray and a second try provided in a storage space and coupled to each other to define a ice chamber and a driving part that rotates the second tray, a first heater provided in the first tray to heat the first tray, a second heater provided in the second tray to heat the second tray, and an ejector provided below the second tray to press an external portion of the second tray to separate ice from the second tray when the second tray is rotated for ice separation, and a controller that controls operation of the ice maker, the method including starting ice making by supplying water to the ice chamber; heating the second tray by turning on the second heater during ice making; heating the first tray by turning on the first heater for ice separation after completion of ice making; and heating the second tray by turning on the second heater for ice separation.

A heater that is located between the case and the flexible tray is configured to supply heat to the plurality of ice making chambers through the flexible tray.

MACHINE READABLE ICE CUBE MOLD AND MAKER

Ice making appliances and methods for making ice using a machine-readable ice cube mold are provided herein. The ice making appliances and methods of making ice may include obtaining ice mold identifier data from the ice mold. Ice mold identifier may be used to acquire operating parameters of the ice making appliance specific to that ice mold from an external communication network. The operating parameters may be used to adjust operation of the appliance, such as the volume of water to dispense for that particular mold.
