Apparatus are provided for preventing the formation of ice crystals in a biological sample containing a non-Newtonian fluid as a cryopreservation medium. The apparatus may be used to prevent ice formation during cryopreservation of biological samples, or during warming of cryopreserved biological samples, by changing the viscosity of the non-Newtonian fluid. The apparatus (200) comprises a housing (202) for a container (212) containing the biological sample (214) and the non-Newtonian fluid, and a device (204) for inducing a change in viscosity of the cryopreservation medium. The change in viscosity may be increased by inducing shear thickening of the cryopreservation medium, or the change in viscosity may be decreased by inducing shear thinning of the cryopreservation medium. Possible viscosity-changing devices comprise a tapping device, a piston, a rotating device, a compression device, a sound generating device, a permanent magnet or a electromagnetic field generating device. The apparatus may further include a temperature control device.

The present invention provides a refrigerator, comprising a storage compartment and a mixed air passage. Both ends of the mixed air passage have air inlets, the middle portion of the mixed air passage comprises a mixed air outlet communicating with the storage compartment, and the mixed air passage is configured to receive air flows from the two air inlets such that two air flows enter the storage compartment in a mixed manner via the mixed air outlet. The refrigerator of this invention comprises a mixed air passage, so that the air in an area of the storage compartment with a relatively high temperature can enter the mixed air passage earlier than external air or the air in the storage compartment with a relatively low temperature. Then, the two air flows are blown to the storage compartment in a mixed manner, realizing even temperature distribution in the storage compartment.

Systems and methods for an actively cooled container comprising: a power subsystem; an active cooling subsystem; and a control subsystem are provided. In some embodiments, the control subsystem is configured to: determine that additional cooling is needed; cause the active cooling subsystem to cool the actively cooled container below a lower limit; determine to end the additional cooling; and cause the active cooling subsystem to cool the actively cooled container at or above the lower limit. In this way, the best balance between a fast cooldown time and not damaging (e.g., through freezing) the product load (e.g., beverages), is achieved.

Beverage chillers are disclosed. A beverage chiller may include a container platform that receives a beverage container and a chiller tank. The chiller tank may have a central axis and may have an agitator. The chiller tank may be filled with water. A conveyor may move the container platform and beverage container into the chiller tank. The container platform and beverage container may rotate in a first direction in the chiller tank and the agitator may rotate the water in a second direction.

Furthermore, the preservation effect on the original foodstuffs will not be affected, and the preservation effect of the refrigerating and freezing device on the foodstuff is enhanced.
