METHOD FOR LARGE HYDROGEN LIQUEFACTION SYSTEM
A method for the liquefaction of hydrogen is provided. The can include the steps of: precooling a hydrogen feed stream in a precooling cold box having a heat exchanger disposed therein to form a cooled hydrogen stream, wherein the heat exchanger is configured to cool down the feed stream within the precooling cold box by indirect heat exchange between the hydrogen feed stream and a precooling refrigerant; and withdrawing the cooled hydrogen stream from the precooling cold box; introducing the cooled hydrogen stream to a plurality of liquefaction cold boxes, wherein the cooled hydrogen stream liquefies within the plurality of liquefaction cold boxes by indirect heat exchange against a liquefaction refrigerant to form a product hydrogen stream in each of the plurality of liquefaction cold boxes, wherein the product hydrogen stream is in liquid form or pseudo-liquid form wherein there are M total precooling cold boxes and N total liquefaction cold boxes, wherein M is less than N.
SOLVENT INJECTION FOR SOLIDS PREVENTION IN AN LNG PLANT
A solvent is dispersed into a natural gas feed at a solvent injection point to produce a mixed feed. The mixed feed contains heavy components with a potentially fouling portion that can cause obstructions in a heat exchanger. A fluid injection system can inject the solvent intermittently, for instance, based on an amount of accumulation or expected accumulation of heavy component solids in the heat exchanger. The solvent prevents the potentially fouling portion of the heavy components from freezing, melts or dissolves the accumulation, and reduces the obstructions in the heat exchanger. The fluid injection system includes a solvent supply, an optional atomizer, an injection controller, optionally one or more sensors, and/or optionally a heater. The solvent injection system can disperse the solvent onto a flow surface for the natural gas feed and/or mixed feed to form a solvent film which further reduces heavy component solids.
LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS PROCESSING COLD BOX WITH INTERNAL REFRIGERANT STORAGE
A system for processing liquified natural gas can include: a natural gas feed; a cold box; one or more natural gas cooling components; and a storage tank configured to store a refrigerant, wherein the one or more natural gas cooling components and the storage tank are located within the cold box. The cold box can be a methane cold box and the refrigerant can be propane, ethane, or ethylene. The system can also include a propane refrigerant cycle and/or an ethylene refrigerant cycle. Refrigerant stored in the methane cold box can be used to replenish refrigerant lost in the propane/ethylene cycles. The cold box can be an ethylene cold box of the ethylene refrigerant cycle. Propane can be stored in the ethylene cold box. A second storage tank can be located within a methane cold box and store ethane or ethylene.
Solvent injection and recovery in a LNG plant
Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for processing liquefied natural gas (LNG). In one implementation, a solvent is injected into a feed of natural gas at a solvent injection point. A mixed feed is produced from a dispersal of the solvent into the feed of natural gas. The mixed feed contains heavy components. A chilled feed is produced by chilling the mixed feed. The chilled feed includes a vapor and a condensed liquid. The condensed liquid contains a fouling portion of the heavy components condensed by the solvent during chilling. The liquid containing the fouling portion of the heavy components is separated from the vapor. The vapor is directed into a feed chiller heat exchanger following separation of the liquid containing the fouling portion of the heavy components from the vapor, such that the vapor being directed into feed chiller heat exchanger is free of freezing components.
Mitigation of Shell-Side Liquid Maldistribution in Coil Wound Heat Exchanger Bundles
Described herein are coil wound heat exchangers (CWHEs), and methods of cooling and/or liquefying streams of fluid using said CWHEs, in which one or more tube layers of the tube bundle are provided with a non-uniform tube winding angle and tube pitch in order to facilitate the equalization of radial pressure imbalances on the shell side of the CWHE, thereby reducing radial maldistribution of fluid on the shell side and improving the heat transfer efficiency of the CWHE.
APPARATUS FOR LARGE HYDROGEN LIQUEFACTION SYSTEM
A hydrogen liquefaction apparatus is provided. The apparatus can include: one or more precooling zones; a plurality of liquefaction zones; a precooling refrigeration cycle configured to provide refrigeration to the precooling zone; and a cold end refrigeration cycle configured to provide refrigeration to the plurality of liquefaction zones, wherein the cold end refrigeration cycle comprises a common recycle compression system, wherein there are M total one or more precooling zones and N total liquefaction zones, wherein M is less than N.
LNG facility with integrated NGL recovery for enhanced liquid recovery and product flexibility
Process for efficiently operating a natural gas liquefaction system with integrated heavies removal/natural gas liquids recovery to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) and/or natural gas liquids (NGL) products with varying characteristics, such as, for example higher heating value (HHV) and/or propane content. Resulting LNG and/or NGL products are capable of meeting the significantly different specifications of two or more markets.
System for enhanced gas turbine performance in a liquefied natural gas facility
A system for liquefying natural gas that includes a process and apparatus for enhancing the performance of one or more gas turbines. Gas turbine power output can be stabilized or even enhanced using the interstage cooling system configured according to one or more embodiments of the present invention. In one embodiment, partially compressed air from a lower compression stage of a gas turbine is cooled via indirect heat exchange with a primary coolant before being returned to a higher compression stage of the same gas turbine. Optionally, the interstage cooling system can employ one or more secondary coolants to remove the rejected heat from the primary coolant system.
Integrated cascade process for vaporization and recovery of residual LNG in a floating tank application
Methods and systems for vaporizing and recovering LNG are provided. One method includes: a) heating at least a portion of the LNG to provide a boil-off gas stream and a liquid quench stream; b) routing the boil-off gas stream and the liquid quench stream to a quench system, wherein the quench system cools the boil-off gas stream to provide a quenched stream; and c) compressing the quenched stream to provide a compressed quenched stream.
HEAT EXCHANGER FOR A LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS FACILITY
A method of constructing a plate fin heat exchanger includes joining a first side bar formed from a nickel-iron alloy to a first end of a fin element formed from a nickel-iron alloy through a first nickel-iron alloy bond, and joining a second side bar formed from a nickel-iron alloy to a second end of the fin element through a second nickel-iron alloy bond to create a first layer of the plate fin heat exchanger. The fin element defines a fluid passage.
