AIR SEPARATION APPARATUS, ADSORBER, AND METHOD
A method of purifying air via a pre-purification unit (PPU) of an air separation unit (ASU) system having a pre-PPU chiller that is upstream of the PPU to cool compressed air before the compressed air is fed to the PPU can include passing air through an adsorber of the PPU to pass the air through a bed of adsorbent material within a vessel of the adsorber. In response to the pre-PPU chiller being determined to have an issue resulting in the pre-PPU chiller being tripped or requiring the pre-PPU chiller to be taken off-line, continuing to operate the ASU system at a full capacity even though nitrous oxide (N2O) within the air output from the PPU exceeds a first pre-selected threshold and is below a second pre-selected threshold associated with carbon dioxide (CO2) breakthrough. An ASU and a PPU can be designed to implement an embodiment of the method.
Method and system for cooling a hydrocarbon stream
A system and method for increasing the efficiency of natural gas liquefaction processes by using a hybrid cooling system and method. More specifically, a system and method for converting a transcritical precooling refrigeration process to a subcritical process. In one embodiment, the refrigerant is cooled to sub-critical temperature using an economizer. In another embodiment, the refrigerant is cooled to a sub-critical temperature using an auxiliary heat exchanger. Optionally, the economizer or auxiliary heat exchanger can be bypassed when ambient temperatures are sufficiently low to cool the refrigerant to a sub-critical temperature. In another embodiment, the refrigerant is isentropically expanded.
Method to condense and recover carbon dioxide (CO2) from CO2 containing gas streams
A method to condense and recover CO.sub.2 from CO.sub.2 containing streams. A first step involve providing at more than one heat exchanger, with each heat exchanger having a first flow path for passage of a first fluid and a second flow path for passage of a second fluid. A second step involves passing a stream of very cold natural gas sequentially along the second flow path of each heat exchanger until it is heated for distribution and concurrently passing a CO.sub.2 containing stream sequentially along the first flow path of each heat exchanger, allowing the water vapor portion of the CO.sub.2 containing stream to condense and precipitate on the condensing heat exchangers. A third step involves passing a water vapor free CO.sub.2 containing stream to a cryogenic heat exchanger to condense, precipitate and recover CO.sub.2. This processes results in the recovery of CO.sub.2 and water vapor from CO.sub.2 containing streams using condensing heat exchangers, chiller, compressor, expander and power generator to recover the low value thermal heat available in CO.sub.2 containing waste streams.
LIQUEFACTION METHOD AND SYSTEM
A system and method for liquefaction of a natural gas stream utilizing a plurality of asymmetric parallel pre-cooling circuits. The use of asymmetric parallel cooling circuits allows for greater control over each refrigerant stream during the cooling process and simplifies process control by dedicating heat exchangers to performing similar duties.
Ethylene plant refrigeration system
A refrigeration system for cooling a charge gas by a binary refrigerant. The refrigeration system comprises n heat exchangers, n compressor stages, at least one separator and a demethanizer. By flowing depressurized refrigerant through all the subsequent heat exchangers and installing interstage coolers, the overall energy for the refrigeration system is reduced.
INSTALLATION AND METHOD FOR PURIFYING AND LIQUEFYING NATURAL GAS
An installation and method for purifying and liquefying natural gas having, arranged in series, an adsorption purification unit, a unit for separating hydrocarbons by refrigeration, and a liquefier. The installation has a gas power plant for combined production of heat and electricity by hydrocarbon combustion. The installation has at least one electrical member, with the power plant being electrically connected to at least one of the electrical members in order to supply them with electrical energy.
System for treating and cooling a hydrocarbon stream
The present invention relates to a system for treating and cooling a hydrocarbon stream, comprising—a gas treatment stage comprising a pre-cooler to cool at least part of the hydrocarbon feed against cooling water, —a first cooling stage comprising one or more first water coolers, —a second cooling stage comprising one or more second water coolers. The system comprises a cooling water unit arranged to receive a stream of cooling water and supply a first part of the stream of cooling water to a chilling unit to obtain a stream of chilled cooling water and pass the stream of chilled cooling water to a selection of the at least one pre-cooler, the one or more first water coolers and the one or more second water coolers.
CHILLER, AIR SEPARATION SYSTEM, AND RELATED METHODS
A chiller can be configured as a chiller for a gasification system or other type of system or plant. In some embodiments, the chiller can be configured to utilize a single heat source, such as low grade waste heat in the form of hot water, and/or low pressure steam to drive one or more absorption-based chillers to cool inlet air to one or more adsorbers of a pre-purification unit (PPU). In the event of the detection of an undesired impurity spike (e.g. carbon dioxide spike, etc.) an additional amount of heat source can be withdrawn from the gasification system to increase the level of cooling the absorption chiller can provide to improve the removal of impurities. An automated control loop can be utilized in some embodiments. The control loop can be configured to check for an impurity concentration and adjust operations accordingly.
Industrial and hydrocarbon gas liquefaction
Liquefaction of industrial gases or gas mixtures (hydrocarbon and/or non-hydrocarbon) uses a modified aqua-ammonia absorption refrigeration system (ARP) to chill the gas or gas mixture during the liquefaction process. The gas is compressed to above its critical point, and the heat of compression energy may be recovered to provide some or all of the thermal energy required to drive the ARP. A Joule Thomson (JT) adiabatic expansion process results in no requirement for specialty cryogenic rotating equipment. The aqua-ammonia absorption refrigeration system includes a vapour absorber tower (VAT) that permits the recovery of some or all of the heat of solution and heat of condensation energy in the system when anhydrous ammonia vapour is absorbed into a subcooled lean aqua-ammonia solution. The modified ARP with VAT may operate at pressures as low as 10 kPa, and the ammonia gas chiller may operate at temperatures as low as −71° C.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR TREATING A FLOW BACK FLUID EXITING A WELL SITE
The present invention relates to a method and system for treating a flow back fluid exiting a well site following stimulation of a subterranean formation. More specifically, the invention relates to processing the flow back fluid, and separating into a carbon dioxide rich stream and a carbon dioxide depleted stream, and continuing the separation until the carbon dioxide concentration in the flow back stream until the carbon dioxide concentration in the flow back gas diminishes to a point selected in a range of about 50-80 mol % in carbon dioxide concentration, after which the lower concentration carbon dioxide flow back stream continues to be separated into a carbon dioxide rich stream which is routed to waste or flare, and a hydrocarbon rich stream is formed.
