A cooling roll including an axle and a sleeve, the sleeve having a length and a diameter and being structured as follows: an inner cylinder, a plurality of magnets disposed along at least a portion of the inner cylinder length, each magnet being defined by a width, a height and a length, a cooling system surrounding at least a portion of the plurality of magnets, the cooling system and the plurality of magnets being separated by a gap defined by a height, the gap height being the smallest distance between a magnet and the cooling system above, the magnets having a width such that the following formula is satisfied:
gap height×1.1≤magnet width≤gap height×8.6.
Space foundry
Certain embodiments of the inventive technology may be described as apparatus for melting and reshaping metal from a first shape into a second shape in a microgravity or zero gravity environment, such as a space foundry, where such apparatus includes feedstock input componentry (5) configured to accept conductive metal feedstock (7) having the first shape, a furnace and a furnace pre-stage (22) established upflow of the furnace, a plurality of electromagnetic field generators (10), each of which is configured to generate an electromagnetic field, to, e.g., steer, melt and/or move the metal, whether melt or otherwise, and casting componentry (15) configured to reshape molten metal to the second shape. Certain embodiments may achieve a high degree of control over electromagnetic fields by offering individual adjustment of one or more electrical parameters of the electromagnetic field generators (10).
IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO STIRRING OF MOLTEN METALS
Apparatus and methods for stirring a molten metal are provided. The apparatus comprising: an electromagnetic stirrer, the electromagnetic stirrer including a core, the core being provided with two or more teeth, the core being provided with two or more electrically conducting coils; connections for applying a current to the electrically conducting coils; wherein the two or more teeth have an end proximal the core and an end distal the core, the end distal the core defining a tooth end face, the tooth end face for at least one of the teeth not being aligned with the tooth end face for at least one of the other teeth. In this way the air gap between the teeth and the container in which molten metal is to be stirrer can be kept small, even with curved walls or bases to the container.

DEVICE FOR TREATING CONTAINER BLANKS
The invention relates to a device for treating container blanks for a container treatment installation. The device comprises a furnace for heating the container blanks. A planar drive system has a base element and a plurality of movement devices for transporting the container blanks. The plurality of movement devices are movable independently from one another relative to the base element. The container blanks can be moved through the furnace by means of the plurality of movement devices.
Melting and/or stirring of molten metals
A method and apparatus for moving molten material within a container are provided. The method comprising: providing apparatus including an electromagnetic mover adjacent a part of the container, wherein the electromagnetic mover has a primary motion axis, the primary motion axis being aligned along the direction of the maximum linear force generated by the electromagnetic stirrer; applying a current to the electromagnetic mover such that changes in magnetic field configuration cause movement of the molten metal within the container; wherein the primary motion axis is inclined relative to the vertical in two different planes; or wherein the longitudinal axis is inclined relative to the vertical in two different planes. The method and apparatus are designed to generate a plurality of different flow zones within the container and/or larger container, the different flow zones differing from one another in terms of their position in the container and/or larger container and/or the different flow zones differing from one another in terms of the relative flow velocities and/or the different flow zones differing from one another in terms of the relative directions of flow.

Systems and methods to preheat ferromagnetic scrap
An example embodiment of the present invention provides a system for preheating ferromagnetic scrap. The system can include a preheating unit that is configured to hold ferromagnetic scrap and to receive hot gases. The preheating unit may include a removable cover that can include an electrical magnet system. The electrical magnet system can comprise an electrical magnet, a lifting device configured to lower and raise the electrical magnet, a power system configured to provide electrical power to the electrical magnet, and an electrical control system configured to operate the magnet. A hot gases cleaning system may be fluidly connected to the preheating unit.
