Non-electric initiator system
A squib assembly for a non-electric initiator of an anti-personnel obstacle breaching system includes a housing configured to connect to the igniter of a rocket motor of the anti-personnel obstacle breaching system, a slider assembly slidably contained within the housing and configured to connect to a shock tube of the non-electric initiator, and a pyrotechnic element disposed within the housing. Upon activation of the non-electric initiator, the squib assembly is configured to mechanically puncture a base of a initiator sleeve of the rocket motor and to thermally initiate ignition of the rocket motor.
Explosive initiation safety and handling method for explosive ordnance disposal robots
A method comprising the steps of providing an Explosive Initiation Safety and Handling System (EISS) coupled to a robot, operatively coupling a charge carrier table and a manipulator to the robot; securing a charge to the charge carrier table; installing a shock tube spool on the shock tube spooling mechanism and locking with an indexing nut; inserting the shock tube that has been uncoiled from the spooling mechanism into the interrupter and replacing the cap; attaching the shock tube to the charge; making an initiator-to-interrupter connection with the shock tube; retracting the manipulator on the robot to a fully stowed position and rotating the charge carrier in front of the robot; picking up the charge with the manipulator, extending the manipulator forward and placing the charge at a threat; stowing the charge carrier; positioning the robot at a distance from the threat, allowing the shock tube to spool out; remotely activating a first firing circuit on the robot to arm the system; cutting the shock tube inside the interrupter and aligning the shock tube with the initiator; and firing a second circuit to initiate the shock tube.
Flexible metal/metal oxide and/or intermetallic reactant ribbon cutting system
Provided is a blast-free alternative tool for breaching operations for the intended purpose of cutting metal, including rebar, steel cables, I-beams, thin walled containers, welding doors, and the like. The apparatus includes a flexible and cuttable tube containing metal oxide/metal (thermite) mixture, capable of being formed around a target material and of NONEL ignition. The apparatus can be used to cut, weld, or ignite target material. Protective caps are included with provisions to insert shock tube or time fuse to transmit ignition to first fire mix. A fire proof or flame retardant flexible outerwrap with adhesive (such as hydrogel) or malleable retention wires covers the cutting ribbon for heat and slag retention. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus is issued/manufactured in rolls or precut lengths.
