A safety system for residential and commercial use includes a plurality of sensor modules that may be distributed about the environment, and that are in communication with a remote server environment and with other devices over a wireless communication network (e.g., cellular, Wi-Fi). Each sensor module includes a plurality of sensors that are capable of measuring or detecting characteristics of the environment such as smoke, small particulate, large particulate, chemicals, gasses, temperature, humidity, pressure, geolocation, and other characteristics. Analysis of sensor data is performed locally on the sensor module, as well as remotely on a server, in order to fuse and consider multiple sensor data points to identify emergency and non-emergency scenarios. By fusing and analyzing sensor data emergencies can be detected more quickly, and false alarms can be filtered out and avoided.

An example method 100 includes: getting (S101) measurements by a group of sensors; estimating (S102) initial true states of the physical processes; and repeating the following until convergence: calculating (S103) reliability scores of the group of sensors such that a more reliable sensor should be more likely to provide measurements which are closer to real state of the physical process monitored by the sensor; and estimating (S104), based on the calculated reliability scores, true states of the physical processes, such that the real state of a physical process should be closer to measurements by a more reliable sensor.

Use Of Channel Information To Generate Redundant Angle Measurements On Safety Critical Applications

A sensor system and method use channel information to generate redundant angle measurements for sensing rotation of magnets about a given axis of rotation. It was observed that magnetic field strength on a circle, centered on the axis of rotation but in a plane perpendicular to it, have a component parallel to the axis that varies sinusoidally as a function of the angle around the circle. By placing magnetic field sensors equiangularly around such a circle, and summing their field strengths with appropriate weights, the angle of magnet rotation may be computed in a manner that is immune to the presence of stray fields. Moreover, fewer than all channels of sense data may be combined to form redundant estimates of the angle of rotation, to permit continued operation when one of the sensors has failed.
