Smart electronic switch

An electronic fuse circuit includes an electronic switch with a load current path coupled between an output node and a supply node and that connects or disconnects the output node and the supply node in accordance with a drive signal. The circuit includes a control circuit to generate the drive signal based on an input signal. A monitoring circuit is included in the control circuit to receive a current sense signal representing the load current passing through the load current path and to determine a first protection signal based on the current sense signal and a wire parameter. The first protection signal is indicative of whether to disconnect the output node from supply node. The control circuit changes from normal mode to idle mode when the load current is below a given current threshold and another criterion is fulfilled.

HOT-SPOT DETECTION IN ELECTRICAL DEVICES
20230021324 · 2023-01-26 · ·

An electrical device including a surface which may be exposed to heat derived from operation of the electrical device such that the temperature of the surface increases during operation. The surface includes a temperature sensor including first and second electrodes separated by a layer of control material. The material properties and/or configuration of the control material are selected such that the electrical conductivity of the control material increases with increasing temperature so that electrical current is able to pass between the first and second electrodes once the temperature of any part of the control material has reached or exceeded a predetermined temperature. The temperature sensor extends over substantially the whole of the surface. A system including the electrical device and a method of controlling the electrical device is also disclosed.

System for Monitoring a Device

A system and method includes at least one temperature sensor, a processing unit, and an output unit. The temperature sensor acquires a temperature measurement at a first location of an operational device, which first location is in thermal contact with a second location of the operational device. The processing unit selects a simulated temperature distribution of the first location of a simulated device from a plurality of simulated temperature distributions of the first location and compares the temperature measurement with simulated temperature distributions of the first location, and determines whether a hot spot exists or is developing at the second location. The determination comprises utilization of a correlation between the simulated temperature distribution of the first location and the second location for the selected simulated temperature distribution of the first location of the simulated device.
