OPTICAL FIBER TEST METHOD AND OPTICAL FIBER TEST DEVICE
An object of the present disclosure is to enable each inter-modal coupling efficiency at a connection point between few-mode optical fibers to be accurately acquired. The present disclosure involves: inputting pulsated pump light in a fundamental mode or a first higher-order mode into one end of an optical fiber under test constructed by connecting two optical fibers in series; inputting probe light having an optical frequency difference within a Brillouin frequency shift range with respect to the pump light into the other end of the optical fiber under test in the fundamental mode or the first higher-order mode; measuring a Brillouin gain distribution related to a distance of transmitted light intensity of probe light output from the one end into which the pump light was input; acquiring a transmittance at a connection point of the optical fiber under test by using the Brillouin gain distribution; and substituting the transmittance and a Brillouin gain coefficient unique to the optical fiber under test into an expression representing a transmittance at the connection point that occurs in a Brillouin gain distribution in each mode and solving a simultaneous equation to calculate each inter-modal coupling efficiency at the connection point.

The method comprises: in response to a detection request of a target node on a to-be-detected optical fiber, determining a first and second sampling sequence that are formed by respectively propagating, on said optical fiber, a first and second optical signal respectively sent from each end of the optical fiber through an OTDR; determining a total length of the optical fiber; generating a detection result according to the first and second sampling sequence and the total length, and sending the detection result to the target node. By determining the first and second sampling sequence and combining the total length of the optical fiber, a detection result of the to-be-detected optical fiber is generated.
OPTICAL FIBER EVALUATION METHOD AND OPTICAL FIBER EVALUATION APPARATUS
The present invention has an object to provide an optical fiber testing method and an optical fiber testing device capable of measuring the delay ratio between the modes at each position of a fiber over a long distance in which a plurality of modes propagate.
An optical fiber testing method and its device according to the present invention, measure the change amount for the wave number k of a Brillouin Frequency Shift ν in stimulated Brillouin scattering generated in the same acoustic mode, with respect to each target propagation mode. Thereby, the ratio of the change amount measured at each propagation mode is acquired as the group delay ratio between the modes.

A system (20) for fiber-optic reflectometry includes an optical source (28, 40), a beat detection module (52, 56) and a processor (36). The optical source is configured to generate an optical interrogation signal that is transmitted into an optical fiber (24). The beat detection module is configured to receive from the optical fiber an optical backscattering signal in response to the optical interrogation signal, and to mix the optical backscattering signal with a reference replica of the optical interrogation signal using In-phase/Quadrature (I/Q) mixing, so as to produce a complex beat signal having In-phase (I) and Quadrature (Q) components. The processor is configured to sense one or more events affecting the optical fiber by analyzing the I and Q components of the complex beat signal.
Nonlinear Spatially Resolved Interferometer (NL-SRI) for characterizing Optical Properties of Deployed Telecommunication Cables
Using pump-probe measurements on multi-span optical links may result in the determination of one or more of the following: 1) wavelength-dependent power profile and gain evolution along the optical link; 2) wavelength-dependent dispersion map; and 3) location of regions of high polarization-dependent loss (PDL) and polarization-mode dispersion (PMD). Such measurements may be a useful diagnostic for maintenance and upgrade activities on deployed cables as well as for commissioning new cables.
Redundant optical fiber system and method for remotely monitoring the condition of a pipeline
An optical fiber sensor system and method for monitoring a condition of a linear structure such as a pipeline is provided which is capable of providing continuous monitoring in the event of a break in the sensing optical fiber or fibers. The system includes at least one sensing fiber provided along the length of the linear structure, and first and second interrogation and laser pumping sub-systems disposed at opposite ends of the sensing fiber, each of which includes a reflectometer. The reflectometer of the first interrogation and laser pumping sub-system is connected to one end of the sensing fiber. The reflectometer of the second interrogation and laser pumping sub-system is coupled to either (i) an end of a second sensing fiber provided along the length of the linear structure which is opposite from the one end of the first sensing fiber, or (ii) the opposite end of the first sensing fiber. Before any break of the sensing fiber or fibers occurs, each reflectometer redundantly monitors the condition of the linear structure over its entire length. After any such break occurs, each reflectometer will continue to receive signals up to the point of the break from opposite ends of the structure.
Optical fiber property measuring device and optical fiber property measuring method
There are proposed an optical fiber property measuring device and an optical fiber property measuring method which can enhance spatial resolution more than before. In the present invention, in synchronization with frequency modulation applied to x-polarized light, intensity modulation is also applied to the x-polarized light by an intensity modulation means. This makes it possible to increase or decrease the intensity of the x-polarized light at a specific frequency, thereby allowing the effective length of a Brillouin dynamic grating formed by the x-polarized light to be adjusted. As a result, the shape of the reflection spectrum obtained when y-polarized light is reflecting by the Brillouin dynamic grating can also be adjusted optimally, which leads to enhancement of spatial resolution with the y-polarized light.
