Portable device for controlling subsystems including exhaust subsystems of vehicles
11708781 · 2023-07-25 · ·

A portable device receives power from a battery of a vehicle when connected to the vehicle via a connector in the vehicle. The portable device determines whether an engine of the vehicle is running and a speed of the vehicle if the engine is running. The portable device clears fault codes of ECUs if the engine is not running. The portable device resets parameters of an ECU controlling an exhaust system of the vehicle to default values if the portable device remains connected to the vehicle for a predetermined time period after sending clearing the fault codes. If the engine is running and that the speed of the vehicle is zero, the portable device initiates a forced regeneration of a diesel particulate filter of the exhaust system.

The maximum diameter D1 of the heat dissipating member (104) is equal to or less than the opposite side dimension D2 of the tool engagement portion (110B).

Sensor tube structure that supresses carbon deposition

A sensor tube structure includes a sensor housing, a sensor mounted on the sensor housing, an external tube mounted at an end of the sensor housing to enclose the sensor, an inner tube provided to be movable inside the external tube, a drive plate in which a sensor hole into which the sensor is inserted is formed, and is coupled to the inner tube, and an actuator mounted on the sensor housing and selectively moving the drive plate.

Method for operating a drive device and corresponding drive device
11598281 · 2023-03-07 · ·

A method for operating a drive device having a drive unit producing exhaust gas and an exhaust gas posttreatment device designed as a vehicle catalytic converter for posttreatment of the exhaust gas. A first measured value describing the residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas is measured by a first lambda sensor arranged upstream of the exhaust gas posttreatment device and a second measured value describing the residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas is measured by a second lambda sensor arranged downstream of the exhaust gas posttreatment device. The combustion air ratio of a fuel-air mixture used to operate the drive unit is set during an at least temporarily performed normal operating mode on the basis of the first measured value, the second measured value, and a threshold value for the second measured value.

System and method for monitoring an exhaust aftertreatment system

An exhaust aftertreatment system and associated method for purifying an exhaust gas feedstream of a lean-burn or other compression-ignition internal combustion engine is described. An instruction set is executable to determine an engine-out NO2 concentration upstream of an oxidation catalyst and determine a first parameter associated with O2 concentration. A consumption of oxygen in the oxidation catalyst due to oxidation reactions is determined, and a concentration of NO2 generated by the oxidation catalyst is determined based upon the consumption of oxygen in the oxidation catalyst. A concentration of NO2 downstream of the oxidation catalyst is determined. A NO2/NOx ratio in the exhaust gas feedstream downstream of the oxidation catalyst is determined based upon the concentration of NO2 downstream of the oxidation catalyst and the NOx concentration measured by the downstream NOx sensor. The oxidation catalyst is evaluated based upon the NO2/NOx ratio.

In a method and a device for monitoring the operability of an emission control system of an internal combustion engine, at least two catalytic converters are situated in succession in an exhaust duct. For tracking control, breakthrough detection for diagnosing the first catalytic converter, and for a second balancing for the storage capacity of oxygen or rich gas of the second catalytic converter, a two-point lambda probe be used and, for the latter, tolerance and aging effects are compensated. This results in particular in cost advantages in emission control systems for fulfilling stricter emission and diagnostic requirements.

Sensor element including a strip conductor and a reference gas channel

A sensor element for detecting a physical property of a gas includes: a solid electrolyte film; a first end area and a second end area situated diametrically opposite in the longitudinal direction; a functional element in the first end area in the interior which is electrically conductively connected to a contact surface situated in the second end area on the outer surface, the electrically conductive connection having a strip conductor running essentially in the longitudinal direction in the interior of the sensor element; and a reference gas channel running essentially in the longitudinal direction of the sensor element communicating with a reference gas outside of the sensor element via a reference gas opening, the strip conductor and the reference gas channel being situated in such a way that at least a partial overlap occurs between them.

GAS SENSOR

A metal terminal of a gas sensor includes a forward terminal member and a rear terminal member. The forward terminal member is made of a material superior in heat resistance to and greater in “0.2% yield strength” than a material of the rear terminal member. The forward terminal member has heat resistance suitable for a portion which comes into contact with a high-temperature detection element and is larger in an elastic deformation region than the rear terminal member, thereby providing good contact with the detection element and thus facilitating maintenance of electrical contact with the detection element. The rear terminal member is unlikely to have springback at a signal-wire connection portion to be connected to a lead wire, thereby facilitating maintenance of electrical connection with the lead wire.
