Among other things, this application describes systems and methods for detecting gas using a wide band light source, and at least two narrow band light sensors, wherein each sensor may be operable to detect light at a different range of wavelengths. Additionally, the gas detector device may comprise a color changing indicator operable to react with gas in the air to change color, wherein different gases may react to create different colors, and wherein the sensors detect light reflected by the color changing indicator from the wide band light source. The gas detector device may comprise a processor in communication with the at least two light sensors operable to receive detected reflected wavelength information from the light sensors, and determine the type of gas that reacted with the color changing indicator based on the color detected by the sensors, wherein each color may be associated with a different type of gas.

An optical detector (100, 200, 300) for detecting gas and suspended matter therein includes a test chamber (111, 113), at least one light source (12), a sensing object (131, 133), a test optical sensor (141) and a processor (19). The test chamber (111, 113) accommodates a gas to be analyzed. The at least one light source (12) emits an incident light that enters the test chamber (111, 113). The sensing object (131, 133) is exposed to gas in the test chamber (111, 113), receives the incident light, and reflects or transmits a portion of the incident light to form a test light. The test optical sensor (141) receives the test light and generates a detected spectral signal. The processor (19) receives the detected spectral signal and calculates a detection result according to the detected spectral signal.
Hazardous contaminant collection kit and rapid testing
Contamination detection systems, kits, and techniques are described for testing surfaces for the presence of hazardous contaminants, while minimizing user exposure to these contaminants. Even trace amounts of contaminants can be detected. A collection kit provides a swab that is simple to use, easy to hold and grip, allows the user to swab large areas of a surface, and keeps the user's hands away from the surface being tested. The kit also provides open and closed fluid transfer mechanism to transfer the collected fluid to a detection device while minimizing user exposure to hazardous contaminants in the collected fluid. Contamination detection kits can rapidly collect and detect hazardous drugs, including trace amounts of antineoplastic agents, in healthcare settings at the site of contamination.
