Methods and apparatus for determining a crush strength of an edge
A test apparatus comprises a probe movably mounted relative to a carrier. The probe comprises an end portion with a surface area of about 5 mm.sup.2 or less. The test apparatus can be used in methods of determining a crush strength of an edge of a substrate. Methods can comprise aligning the probe with a test location of the substrate at a predetermined angle relative to a probe axis. Methods can further comprise applying a mechanical force to the test location with the probe in the direction of the probe axis. Also, methods can comprise increasing the mechanical force applied by the probe until the substrate cracks or a predefined force applied by the probe is reached. Based on the mechanical force applied by the probe, a crush strength of an edge can be determined.

The mechanical characterization device includes: a support receiving a container suitable for containing a liquid medium; a holder for holding the element of interest; an indenting member; a magnet for generating a magnetic field in which the indenting member is intended to move and which participates in suspending the indenting member with an unstable horizontal direction oriented coaxially to the longitudinal axis; a controller to control the magnet to maneuver the indenting member in translation along the unstable horizontal direction; and a component for determining the mechanical characteristics of the element of interest.

Tablet testing device
The invention relates to a tablet testing device for testing tablets with at least one tablet testing station suitable for carrying out at least one test procedure, and preferably at least one apparatus suitable for receiving, and possibly also crushing, the tablet, and also at least one device for positioning a test specimen in accordance with the procedure. The present disclosure provides for a guide for use in a compression test, the compression test comprising loading a test sample between a first loading plate and an opposing load applied between the test sample and the first loading plate in a loading direction, the guide comprising: at least one support member, positionable between the first loading plate and the load and extending substantially parallel to the loading direction to constrain the test sample in a direction perpendicular to the loading direction, wherein, when in use, the at least one support member is positioned to define a space between the first loading plate and the support member such that when a load is applied the test sample is deformable in a direction perpendicular to the loading direction within the space.

Techniques for determining rock properties include exerting a compressive load with a test apparatus across a rock sample that includes a specified length-to-diameter ratio; measuring, with a strain gauge, a strain on the rock sample during the compressive loading; determining, based at least in part on the compressive load, a mechanical property of the rock sample; and determining, based at least in part on the measured strain and the compressive load, an elastic property of the rock sample.
