Fluorescent dye films for detecting NOx-based explosives in the air, in solutions, and from wipe samples
A detection reagent is disclosed in the form of a dye having the basic structure of a 4-(phenylethynyl)-phenyl-amine, a 4-(phenylethenyl)-phenyl-amine and/or a biphenylamine derivative. The dye can be used as detection reagent for nitroaromatics, nitroalkanes, nitroamines, nitrates, nitric acid, nitrous acid, nitrogen oxides, and additionally for sulphur dioxide (which is produced with the degradation of black powder). The dye can be an asymmetric triphenylamine derivative, which can lead to a fluorescence quenching, which can be used analytically in the case of electron abstraction.
Devices and methods for smart sensor application
An apparatus comprises a load resistance connectable in series with the electronic sensor to form a series resistance of the load resistance and the internal impedance of the electronic sensor; an excitation circuit configured to apply a predetermined voltage to a circuit element; and a measurement circuit configured to: initiate applying the predetermined voltage to the series resistance and determining the series resistance; initiate applying the predetermined voltage to the load resistance and determining the load resistance; and calculate the internal impedance of the sensor using the determined series resistance and the load resistance, and provide the calculated internal impedance to a user or process.
IONIC LIQUID CARBON NANOTUBE COMPOSITES FOR WIRELESS CHEMICAL SENSING
A wireless sensor platform design and a single walled carbon nanotube/ionic liquid-based chemidosimeter system can incorporated into a highly sensitive and selective chemical hazard badge that can dosimetrically detect an analyte down to a sub parts-per-million concentration.
SEALANT DETECTION APPARATUS, METHOD AND ASSEMBLY
Apparatus, assembly and method for investigating the integrity of a seal and sealant contained in a sealing fitting used in hazardous locations. The apparatus/assembly can include signal transmitters and signal receivers provided on a conduit system on either side of a sealing fitting. The apparatus/assembly can include probes placed on either side of a sealant within a sealing fitting, the probes placed in probe ports provided through the wall of the sealing fitting.
Textile-based printable electrodes for electrochemical sensing
Techniques and systems are disclosed for implementing textile-based screen-printed amperometric or potentiometric sensors. The chemical sensor can include carbon based electrodes to detect at least one of NADH, hydrogen peroxide, potassium ferrocyanide, TNT or DNT, in liquid or vapor phase. In one application, underwater presence of chemicals such as heavy metals and explosives is detected using the textile-based sensors.
PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR FACILITATING CHEMICAL IDENTIFICATION IN A DETECTOR
The present disclosure relates to a process for facilitating the identification of target chemicals which may be detected by means of an ion mobility spectrometer and a system for implementing the same. In an aspect of the disclosure, there is provided a process for determining the ratio of CI″ to CI″.OOH reactant ion species formed in a pentachloroethane doped ion mobility spectrometer operating in negative mode, said process comprising: i) introducing a sample comprising or consisting essentially of isoflurane into a pentachloroethane doped ion mobility spectrometer; ii) collecting data relevant to the detection of two isoflurane monomer ions formed following reaction with CI″ and CI″.OOH reactant ion species present in the pentachloroethane doped ion mobility spectrometer; and iii) determining the ratio of CI″ to CI″.OOH reactant ion species formed in the pentachloroethane doped ion mobility spectrometer based on an evaluation of the data collected.
Wire seal for detector assembly
A detector head assembly of a sensor includes a detector body having an internal channel extending a longitudinal length. The detector body is configured to hold a sensor cartridge that includes a sensing element. The detector head assembly includes a wire having a conductor. The wire extends into the internal channel of the detector body such that an end of the conductor is configured to be operatively connected to the sensing element. The detector head assembly includes a wire seal having a generally pliable sealant held within the internal channel of the detector body. The generally pliable sealant is configured to be longitudinally compressed along the longitudinal length of the internal channel during assembly of the detector head assembly such that the generally pliable sealant moves into and fills one or more voids between the wire and the detector body for sealing the wire to the detector body.
Target odor detection and security method
A target odor detecting method for screening odor emitters in a relatively confined space using an animate and/or inanimate odor detector to detect one or more target odors.
Efficient decontamination of personnel and objects
A method for efficiently decontaminating surfaces is provided comprising applying an indicator to a surface wherein the indicator provides an observable or machine readable response when a contamination is present on the surface, wherein the response is located relative to a location of the contamination; and decontaminating the location of the contamination, and optionally rechecking the location of the initial contamination post decontamination to ensure that the surface is free of contamination.
System and method for chemical and/or biological detection
A method and system for detecting the presence of chemical and/or biological agents are disclosed. An additive, which may comprise a reactant and/or a catalyst selected for its capacity to react with, or to force a reaction involving a target chemical and/or biological agent, may be introduced into a sample of an ambient environment to be monitored. The additive may then react with the target agent, or, as a catalyst, may drive a reaction with the target agent, resulting in a reaction product that may be detected by one or more sensors or sensor arrays. The method and system may incorporate a plurality of sensor types in order to enhance the specificity of the method and system.
