A METHOD FOR MAPPING AN INTERNAL STRUCTURE OF A SAMPLE

The disclosure provides a method (200) for determining one or more features associated with an internal structure of a gemstone, the gemstone being at least partially transmissive to electromagnetic radiation. The method comprises directing electro-magnetic radiation towards the gemstone using a source of incident electromagnetic radiation; in response to directing electromagnetic radiation, detecting electromagnetic radiation using an optical detecting means, including detecting electromagnetic radiation following an interaction between the gemstone and the incident electromagnetic radiation; and processing the detected electromagnetic radiation, wherein the processing accounts for a determination of an external surface geometry of the gemstone and for refraction and reflection effects due to the external surface geometry of the gemstone, and obtains information indicative of the one or more features associated with the internal structure of the gemstone. A system for determining one or more features associated with an internal structure of a gemstone is also provided.

RE-IDENTIFICATION OF ROUGH GEMSTONES
20240153286 · 2024-05-09 ·

A method of re-identifying a rough gemstone comprises providing a 3D model of a first rough gemstone; generating a series of virtual 2D silhouette images of the 3D model; processing each 2D image of the series of virtual 2D silhouette images to obtain a dataset associated with the first rough gemstone; and comparing the dataset of the first rough gemstone with an existing dataset of a rough gemstone. Where the dataset of the first rough gemstone and the existing dataset match each other, the method comprises re-identifying the first rough gemstone as the same rough gemstone from which the existing dataset was obtained.

OBJECT CHARACTERIZATION AND AUTHENTICATION

A method for object characterization and authentication is described. In one embodiment, the method may include establishing, over a communication network, a connection between a network accessible image capturing device and a remote computing device, capturing a first image of an object using the microscope before performing an action in relation to the object, identifying a distinguishing feature of the object on the first image of the object, capturing a second image of the object using the microscope after performing the action in relation to the object, and identifying the distinguishing feature of the object on the second image of the object. In one embodiment, the image capturing device may include, or be associated with, a microscope.
