MICRO-SCALE CONCENTRATED PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULE
A photovoltaic (“PV”) module may comprise an array of freeform micro-optics and an array of PV cells. The PV module may be a flat panel with a nominal thickness smaller than the length and width of the flat panel. An array of lenses may be embedded in an array substrate. The lenses may be coupled to light pipes. The lenses may concentrate light through the light pipes to multi-junction cells. Diffuse light may be transferred through the array substrate to a silicon cell. The lenses and light pipes may be manufactured using a molding and drawing process.
ADHESIVE FOR LIGHT REDIRECTING FILM
The present disclosure relates to adhesives useful in preventing drifting during lamination of light redirecting films applied to photovoltaic cells. The adhesives of the present disclosure have other useful applications in bonding and/or affixing other solar energy components.
High Efficiency Daylighting Devices
An optical panel deploys stacks of spaced apart louvers with reflective surface for redirecting exterior sunlight to day light the interior of room ceiling distal from windows. The reflective surfaces my be shaped with modulations in shape to enhance the spreading of reflected light under various lighting conditions that occur as the sun moves through the sky during the day.
HELIOSTAT FIELD LAYOUT SYSTEM AND METHOD
A heliostat field layout for a concentrated solar power (CSP) plant includes a plurality of heliostats arranged adjacent each other (e.g., side-by-side) in a first arc spaced from a tower comprising a solar receiver. A second plurality of heliostats are arranged adjacent each other (e.g., side-by-side) in one or more additional arcs spaced from each other and spaced from the first arc, each additional arc spaced from a previous of the additional arcs by a radial distance that defines an aisle, the radial distance between a pair of adj acent arcs being equal to or greater than the radial distance between a previous pair of adjacent arcs in a direction away from the tower. The heliostats are arranged in the arcs in a non-staggered manner.
COMPOSITE PANEL ELEMENT FOR GUIDING LIGHT
A composite panel element for guiding light, a window having the same, and a method for producing the same. To provide a composite panel element with good light guiding properties and being optically transparent and homogeneous, the composite panel element for guiding light has a first panel element with a first microstructure on a first inner surface and a second panel element with a second microstructure on a second inner surface. The first and the second microstructure have respective depressions/elevations. The panel elements are arranged such that the first and the second inner surface are facing one another, and the first and second microstructure are arranged such that internal micro-cavities are formed between the microstructures. The first and second microstructure have respective planar-contact adhesion sections for force-lockingly securing the panel elements to one another and/or corresponding latching sections for form-lockingly and/or force-lockingly securing the panel elements to one another.
PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR POWER PLANT ASSEMBLY COMPRISING AN OPTICAL STRUCTURE FOR REDIRECTING LIGHT
A photovoltaic solar power plant assembly and a method of using said assembly to generate power are disclosed. The assembly includes an array of photovoltaic solar modules arranged in a solar module surface, and an optical structure for redirecting light towards said solar module surface, having a redirected light emitting surface. The optical structure includes: a planar optical waveguide which has a parallel first and second planar waveguide surfaces, wherein the first planar waveguide surface extends parallel to the redirected light emitting surface, wherein the first planar waveguide surface is at least partially covered by a photonic layer which is configured to provide an angular restriction of a light emission from the planar waveguide through the redirected light emitting surface, and a light scattering and/or luminescent material, which material is arranged as particles in the planar optical waveguide and/or in a layer which at least partially covers the second planar waveguide surface.
Devices for internal daylighting with IR rejection
A device for day lighting the interior of structure deploys reflective louvers that are spaced apart in stacks. The louvers include a coating or multilayer structure that is operative to reflect visible light but transmit IR light through the louver. The louvers also have a retro-reflective structure to return the IR light by reverse reflection in the opposite direction of the incident light, which is back toward the sun. The interior of the structure is more uniformly illuminated with visible light while the louvers and interior are not heated by IR light or radiation from the sun.
WEARABLE COMPUTING DEVICE
A smart ring includes a curved housing having a U-shape interior storing components including: a curved battery approximately conforming to the curved housing, a semi-flexible PCB approximately conforming to the curved housing and having mounted thereon: a motion sensor for generating motion data from physical perturbations of the smart ring, a memory for storing executable instructions, a transceiver for sending data to a client computer, a temperature sensor, and a processor for receiving motion data and performing executable instructions in response thereto, and a potting material disposed in the interior, forming an interior wall of the smart ring, wherein the potting material encapsulates the components and is substantially transparent to visible light, infrared light, and / or ultraviolet light.
Electromagnetic wave-trapping device
An electromagnetic wave-trapping device including two surfaces, each disposed in a plane, the two surfaces disposed at a first angle with respect to one another to form an opening, one of the two surfaces is configured to be orientated such that an incident electromagnetic ray through the opening, is disposed at a second angle with respect to the one of the two surfaces.
