Ergonomic prism loupes provide establish deflection angle less than 45 degrees, more preferably around 40 degrees, to improves visual and postural ergonomics. It has been determined that with such a deflection angle, maximum head tilt is less than 20° for the vast majority of procedural configurations. The prism may be a roof prism. The eyepiece portion may include a singlet and a doublet lenses, and the objective portion may include a triplet lens. The objective portion may also include an optical element that establishes a working distance, and different eyepiece or objective portions may be provided for a range of magnifications. The invention further includes a structure for mounting the loupes on eyeglass frames, such as a through-the-lens (TTL) mounting structure, a front-lens mounting (FLM) structure, or a flip-up mounting structure.

Optical system for displaying magnified virtual image

An optical system for displaying a magnified virtual image of an image emitted by a display to a viewer. The optical system includes first and second lenses facing each other and spaced apart by an air gap to define an optical cavity therebetween. The optical cavity includes a reflective polarizer disposed on a major surface of the first lens, and an optical stack disposed on a major surface of the second lens. The optical stack includes an absorbing polarizer, a first retarder layer, a partial reflector, and a second retarder layer disposed between the absorbing polarizer and the partial reflector. The first and/or second lenses is/are birefringent lens provided outside the optical cavity to control polarization.

A device can include glasses including one or more lenses that permit a wearer a broad view of the environment from a first perspective and contact members having one or more contact-surfaces formed to secure the glasses to a head of the wearer while the wearer is wearing the device. The device can include one or more loupes, each loupe including a redirection member structured to redirect image light that is received by the loupe; one or more magnifying members structured to magnify the image light; a viewport structured to allow passage of the magnified image light. The loupe is secured through one of the lenses such that the magnified image light is presented though the viewport to an eye of the wearer while the wearer is wearing the device.

OBSERVATION OPTICAL SYSTEM

An observation optical system of a real-image type includes, in order from the object side, an objective system, a reverse-erecting system that s erects an inverted image formed by the objective system, and an eyepiece system that allows a pupil to observe an erect image formed by the reverse-erecting system. The objective system includes, in order from the object side, a first lens having a negative power and a second lens having a positive power. The eyepiece system includes, in the order from the object side, a third lens having a positive power, a fourth lens having a negative power, a fifth lens having a positive power, and a sixth lens having a positive power.

SURGICAL MICROSCOPE

A surgical microscope employs a pentaprism beam splitter as a branching unit to branch each beam passed through variable power optical systems into a first beam and a second beam, the first beam being horizontally reflected for an eyepiece unit, the second beam being vertically transmitted for an imaging device. The pentaprism alone is capable of simultaneously conducting reflection to provide an erect image and transmission to provide a photographing image, thereby reducing the number of optical parts in a microscope body of the surgical microscope.

Embedded Reflective Eyepiece

An embedded reflective eyepiece includes an optical lens, a beam splitter and reflective coating at a convex surface of the optical lens and a circular polarizing reflector surface having a concave surface of the optical lens. A method for forming a magnified image includes emitting circularly polarized light from a display source, at least partially refracting the circularly polarized light across a convex surface of a beam splitter reflective coating across a lens, at least partially reflecting refracted circularly polarized light internally off a concave circularly polarized reflector surface of the lens, and at least partially reflecting a reflected circularly polarized light internally off of the beam splitter reflective coating at the convex surface.

DEVICES FOR MAGNIFICATION OF OBJECTS TO ASSIST PEOPLE WITH LOW VISION

A supporting case for use with a smart device such as a smart phone to assist a visually impaired individual. The case has a lower surface for positioning over a viewing surface containing material to be viewed by the individual and a pocket configured and dimensioned to receive and support the smart device. The case includes one or both of a lifting system for lifting and holding the case hands-free at a pre-set distance above the material to be viewed and a distance viewing system to view material not underneath the case.
