Mirror assembly

The present disclosure relates to optical systems, specifically light detection and ranging (LIDAR) systems. An example optical system includes a laser light source operable to emit laser light along a first axis and a mirror element with a plurality of reflective surfaces. The mirror element is configured to rotate about a second axis. The plurality of reflective surfaces is disposed about the second axis. The mirror element and the laser light source are coupled to a base structure, which is configured to rotate about a third axis. While the rotational angle of the mirror element is within an angular range, the emitted laser light interacts with both a first reflective surface and a second reflective surface of the plurality of reflective surfaces and is reflected into the environment by the first and second reflective surfaces.

A scanner for a lidar system is configured to direct emitted light to scan a field of regard of the lidar system in accordance with a scan pattern. The scanner includes a mirror and an actuator assembly. The mirror includes a reflective surface and a rear surface and is pivotable along a mirror axle. The actuator assembly is disposed along the rear surface of the mirror and is configured to exert a torque on the mirror to cause the mirror to pivot about the mirror axle.

A laser scanning sensor includes a laser light-emitting element to emit a pulse laser beam, a light-receiving element to receive a returned reflected beam, a rotary polygon mirror having a plurality of reflecting surfaces to change the travelling direction of the pulse laser beam, and a drive motor to rotate the rotary polygon mirror in a predetermined direction. The sensor also includes an encoder to detect the rotation status of the rotary polygon mirror and to generate a reference signal and trigger signals for the respective reflecting surfaces, and a control/calculation unit to produce a projection pulse train in a specific pulse cycle after a delay time from the generation of a trigger signal for each of the reflecting surfaces, and to acquire distance information per pulse, based on the time after the start of emission of the pulse laser beam before the return of the reflected beam.

Beam scanning engine and display system with multiple beam scanners

A display system includes a display screen, a light source to generate a light beam to be modulated in accordance with image data, and a beam scanning module to receive the light beams and to direct the light beam onto an associated display region of the display screen. The beam scanning module includes a resonant scanning mirror configured to scan the light beam along a first scanning direction across the associated display region, and a polygon scanning mirror to scan the light beam along a second scanning direction across the associated display region.

Examples are disclosed herein related to controlling a scanning mirror system. One example provides a display device, comprising a light source, a scanning mirror system configured to scan light from the light source in a first direction at a first, higher scan rate, and in a second direction at a second, lower scan rate, and a drive circuit configured to control the scanning mirror system to display video image data by providing a control signal to the scanning mirror system to control scanning in the second direction, and for each video image data frame of at least a subset of video image data frames, combining the control signal with an adjustment signal to adjust the scanning in the second direction, the adjustment signal comprising a low pass filtered signal with a cutoff frequency based on a lowest resonant frequency of the scanning mirror system in the second direction.

MAGNETIC SENSING FOR A POLYGON MIRROR USING A HALL SENSOR FOR LIDAR SYSTEM

Embodiments of the disclosure provide magnetic sensing systems and methods for a polygon scanner. An exemplary magnetic sensing system includes a disc permanent magnet configured to provide a magnetic field. The magnetic sensing system further includes a Hall sensor configured to generate a voltage proportional to the strength of the magnetic field as the Hall sensor and the disc permanent magnet move relatively to each other when the polygon mirror rotates. One of the disc permanent magnet and the Hall sensor locates on and rotates with the polygon mirror and the other locates off the polygon mirror. The magnetic sensing system also includes at least one controller configured to determine a rotation angle of the polygon mirror based on the generated voltage by the Hall Sensor.

Each flexible interconnect element out of the at least one interconnect element may be an elongated structure comprising at least two turns at opposing directions, each turn greater than 120°.

In some embodiments, a LIDAR system may include at least one processor configured to control at least one light source for projecting light toward a field of view and receive from at least one first sensor first signals associated with light projected by the at least one light source and reflected from an object in the field of view, wherein the light impinging on the at least one first sensor is in a form of a light spot having an outer boundary. The processor may further be configured to receive from at least one second sensor second signals associated with light noise, wherein the at least one second sensor is located outside the outer boundary; determine, based on the second signals received from the at least one second sensor, an indicator of a magnitude of the light noise; and determine, based on the indicator the first signals received from the at least one first sensor and, a distance to the object.
