The first common electrode is disposed between the liquid crystal layer and the insulating film, and includes a first opening and a first electrode portion. The second common electrode is disposed between the insulating film and the second transparent substrate, and includes a second electrode portion overlapping the first opening.

The coating layer includes at least one selected from a substitution dispersant and a substitution scattering particle, and each of the substitution dispersant and the substitution scattering particle may include at least one substituent selected from an amine group and a carboxyl group. The amine groups and the carboxyl groups included in the coating layer may be different in number from each other.

Composite electrophoretic particles and variable transmission films containing the same

An electro-optic media includes either a plurality of microcapsules in a binder, a polymeric sheet containing sealed microcells, or droplets in a continuous polymeric phase. Each of the microcapsules, microcells, or droplets contain a dispersion that includes a plurality of charged composite particles and a suspending fluid, and the charged particles move through the suspending fluid under the influence of an electric field. The composite particles include one or more types of pigment particles that are at least partially coated with a polymeric material. Each of the binder, polymeric sheet, continuous polymeric phase, the charged composite particles, and the suspending fluid have an index of refraction, and a difference between the index of refraction of the composite particles and at least one of the binder, polymeric sheet, continuous polymeric phase, and solvent is less than or equal to 0.05 at 550 nm.

Display device and method of manufacturing the same

A display device includes a base layer, a first pixel transistor, a first gate line, a first data line electrically connected to the first pixel transistor, a first pixel electrode electrically connected to the first pixel transistor and overlapping the first data line in a plan view, and a porous layer. The porous layer is disposed between the first data line and the first pixel electrode and includes a matrix including a polymer resin and a plurality of void portions defined in the matrix. The display device is capable of displaying a sharp image because the porous layer alleviates or prevents a crosstalk between the first data line and the first pixel electrode.

DISPLAY DEVICE

The display device includes a liquid crystal panel including a polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) layer and a light source, the PDLC layer containing a polymer network and liquid crystal components dispersed in the polymer network, the light source being apart from the liquid crystal panel with an air layer, and configured to emit light toward the liquid crystal panel from an oblique direction, the end portion and the central portion of the PDLC layer each having, in the scattering state, an angle dependence which changes a transmittance of light to be emitted from a front surface based on an angle at which light is incident on a back surface of the PDLC layer, with the angle dependence of the end portion being different from the angle dependence of the central portion, the light source irradiating the end portion and the central portion with light at different angles.

A polarizing component and a display panel are provided in embodiments of the disclosure, the polarizing component comprising: a first polarizer on a light-incident side thereof, and configured to polarize a light incident thereon into a first linearly polarized light; a wave plate layer on a surface of the first polarizer facing away from the light-incident side; and a second polarizer on a surface of the wave plate layer facing away from the light-incident side, on a light-emergent side opposite to the light-incident side, and configured to polarize a light incident thereon into a second linearly polarized light; the wave plate layer comprises a phase delay portion configured to delay a phase of the first linearly polarized light incident thereon in a direction different from a direction of an optical axis of the phase delay portion such that a polarized light exiting the phase delay portion comprises a first polarized light in a first polarization direction and a second polarized light in a second polarization direction, without incurring any phase delay of the first linearly polarized light incident on the phase delay portion in a direction consistent with the direction of the optical axis of the phase delay portion.
