Liquid crystal composition, method for producing high-molecular weight liquid crystal compound, light absorption anisotropic film, laminate, and image display device
The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition with which a light absorption anisotropic film excellent in plane shape uniformity with a high alignment degree can be formed, a method of producing same, a light absorption anisotropic film, a laminate, and an image display device. The liquid crystal composition contains a high-molecular weight liquid crystal compound, and a dichroic substance, where the composition is a copolymer containing 90% by mass or more of a repeating unit (1) of Formula (1) and 10% by mass or less of a repeating unit (2) of Formula (2). In Formulae (1) and (2), P1 to P3 represent main chains, L1 to L3 represent a single bond or divalent linking group, P2 to SP3 represent a single bond or spacer group (SP1), M1 to M3 represent mesogenic groups, T1 represents a terminal group, and n and m are integers of 0 or 1. ##STR00001##
Transmittance-Variable Device
A transmittance-variable device is provided in the present application. The present application provides a transmittance-variable device, which can be applied to various applications without causing problems such as a crosstalk phenomenon, a rainbow phenomenon or a mirroring phenomenon, while having excellent transmittance-variable characteristics.
Optical film stack including retardation layer
Optical film stacks are described. More particularly, optical film stacks including a half-wave retardation layer are described. Achromatic half-wave retardation layers, including achromatic half-wave layers formed from a quarter-wave and a three-quarters-wave retardation layer, are described. Film stacks including reflective polarizers tuned to reduce wavelength dispersion of the half-wave retardation layer are also described.
Diffuser for privacy display
A privacy display comprises a polarised output spatial light modulator, reflective polariser, plural polar control retarders and a polariser. A birefringent surface relief diffuser structure is arranged to transmit light from the display with high transparency and provide diffuse reflection of ambient light to head-on display users. In a privacy mode of operation, on-axis light from the spatial light modulator is directed without loss and with low diffusion, whereas off-axis light has reduced luminance and increased diffusion. Further, overall display reflectivity is reduced for on-axis reflections of ambient light, while reflectivity is increased for off-axis light. The visibility of the display to off-axis snoopers is reduced by means of luminance reduction, increased frontal reflectivity and diffusion of ambient light. In a public mode of operation, the liquid crystal retardance is adjusted so that off-axis luminance and reflectivity are unmodified.
POLARIZATION COMPENSATION FOR WIRE GRID POLARIZER OF HEAD-MOUNTED DISPLAY SYSTEM
The present disclosure relates generally to techniques for improving the performance and efficiency of optical systems, such as optical systems for using head-mounted display system. The optical systems of the present disclosure may include polarized catadioptric optics, or “pancake optics,” which utilize a wire grid polarizer as a reflective polarizer. Wire grid polarizers may not perform uniformly over wavelength or over varying angles of incidence. To improve performance, a spatially varying polarizer is provided in the optical system that operates to provide polarization compensation for the wire grid polarizer so that the wire grid polarizer performs more uniformly over wavelength and/or over incidence angles (e.g., on-axis and off-axis). The spatially varying polarizer may be formed of a liquid crystal material, such as a multi-twist retarder.
TOUCH ELEMENT AND DISPLAY DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME
A touch element includes a polymer phase retardation layer and a touch sensing structure. The polymer phase retardation layer receives the linearly polarized incident light and then produces a phase difference. The touch sensing structure is disposed on the polymer phase retardation layer.
Display device
According to one embodiment, a display device includes, a first transparent substrate having a side surface and a main surface, a first alignment film disposed along the main surface, a first transparent layer located between the first transparent substrate and the first alignment film, a second transparent substrate, a pixel electrode electrically connected to a switching element, a liquid crystal layer, and a light-emitting element opposed to the side surface. The first transparent layer overlaps a part of the pixel electrode and has a lower refractive index than the first transparent substrate.
Backlight assembly and display device
A backlight assembly and a display device including the backlight assembly are provided. The backlight assembly includes a light source unit, a peep-proof layer on a light emitting side of the light source unit, a light adjustment layer on a side of the peep-proof layer distal to the light source unit, and a plurality of first microstructures between the peep-proof layer and the light adjustment layer and spaced apart from each other.
