A lustrous developer according to an embodiment may include: a metallic pigment; and a binder resin. The lustrous developer includes small diameter particles smaller than a volume median diameter of the metallic pigment. A ratio of a volume of particles other than the small diameter particles in the lustrous developer to a volume of the entire lustrous developer is 90.297% or more and 99.314% or less. The volume median diameter of the metallic pigment is 5.91 μm or less.

A development device includes a development housing, a development roller, a supply roller and a layer thickness regulating member. The development housing stores a nonmagnetic one-component toner. The supply roller is formed by a cylindrical elastic body, and supplies the toner to the development roller and collects the toner from the development roller. The development roller has a surface free energy within a range of 5 mJ/m.sup.2 or more and 27 mJ/m.sup.2 or less.

A lustrous developer according to an embodiment may include: a metallic pigment; and a binder resin. A ratio of a volume of particles other than the small diameter particles in the lustrous developer to a volume of the entire lustrous developer is 90.297% or more and 99.314% or less. The volume median diameter of the metallic pigment is 5.91 μm or less.

In an image forming apparatus, when a cartridge is unused, a control portion performs a preparatory operation of initiating rotational drive of a rotating member in a first rotational speed by second drive unit, and then initiating rotational drive of an image bearing member by first drive unit with the surface of the rotating member in contact with the surface of an image bearing member and then, driving the rotating member in a second rotational speed smaller than the first rotational speed prior to the image forming operation, and a ratio of the surface movement speed of the first rotational speed of the rotating member to the surface movement speed of the image bearing member in the preparatory operation is greater than the ratio of the surface movement speed of the rotating member to the surface movement speed of the image bearing member in the image forming operation.

A toner includes binder resin 101 and a coloring agent 102. The coloring agent 102 is configured so that hue of a hue measurement print image printed on a print medium with the toner satisfies 8.6a*(Y)7.9 and 93.4b*(Y)95.4, where a*(Y) and b*(Y) represent an a* value and a b* value of the hue measurement print image and light resistance F of a light resistance measurement print image printed on a print medium with the toner, after an irradiation test in which the light resistance measurement print image is irradiated with light having 0.36 W/m.sup.2 spectral irradiance at a wavelength of 340 nm for 663 hours, is higher than or equal to 70%. The toner is configured so that its melt viscosity at 120 C. is higher than or equal to 1400 Pa.Math.s and lower than or equal to 1600 Pa.Math.s.
Developing device including a movable magnetic member and image forming apparatus therewith
A developing device includes a housing, a developer carrier, a regulating blade forming a regulating portion for regulating the layer thickness of developer on the developer carrier, a magnetic member arranged inside the developer carrier and having a plurality of magnetic poles including S and N poles, and a blade magnet inducing a magnetic pole at the tip end of the regulating blade. The magnetic member is movable between a first position where a magnetic pole having the same polarity as that of the facing magnetic pole of the blade magnet facing the developer carrier is arranged at a regulating portion and a second position where a magnetic pole having a different polarity is arranged at the regulating portion. The developing device can perform a first developer eliminating mode where the magnetic member is moved to a second position and the developer carrier is rotated forward during non-image forming period.

A developing device includes a housing, a developer carrier, a regulating blade forming a regulating portion for regulating the layer thickness of developer on the developer carrier, a magnetic member arranged inside the developer carrier and having a plurality of magnetic poles including S and N poles, and a blade magnet inducing a magnetic pole at the tip end of the regulating blade. The magnetic member is movable between a first position where a magnetic pole having the same polarity as that of the facing magnetic pole of the blade magnet facing the developer carrier is arranged at a regulating portion and a second position where a magnetic pole having a different polarity is arranged at the regulating portion. The developing device can perform a first developer eliminating mode where the magnetic member is moved to a second position and the developer carrier is rotated forward during non-image forming period.
