The processes of different types are categorized in a classification (20), in which a respective set of process parameters (21A-24A; 21B-24B; 21C-24C; 22D-24D), that are used during the execution of the respective process (A, B, C, D), is assigned to each process. During a determination and/or changing of a first process parameter (21A-24A) of a first process (A), a process parameter (S1-S6; 21B-24B; 21C-24C; 22D-24D) of a different process (B, C, D) that is contained within classification (20), is automatically determined and/or changed according to a stored rule, as a function of the first process parameter.

A machining system includes a cover body having an opening and defining a machining area of a workpiece, a door portion provided in the opening, an actuator that operates the door portion between a first position at which the opening is closed and a second position at which the opening is opened, a controller that controls the actuator, and a robot arm that operates through the opening to convey a workpiece between the machining area and an external area outside the machining area. The controller controls the actuator such that the door portion is positioned at a third position when the robot arm conveys the workpiece. An opening area of the opening when the door portion is positioned at the third position is smaller than an opening area of the opening when the door portion is positioned at the second position.

Various embodiments of the teachings herein include a method for subtractive machining of a workpiece using a tool. The method may include: detecting at least two process variables of a machining process; and using the process variables to infer a wear on the tool. The process variables are passed on to a neural network which assigns each process variable a respective degree of wear independently of the other. The wear is inferred by means of a logic on the basis of the respective degrees of wear. The process variables are each selected from the group consisting of: a shape of the tool, an operating current, an operating voltage, maintenance and servicing information, and interruption information of the machining. Detecting the shape of the tool includes imaging using a camera and/or a scanner.

A control apparatus estimates the temperature of the coolant when a predetermined time elapses from a start of the processing to be a temperature of the workpiece, calculates a deformation amount of the workpiece due to thermal expansion, corrects a position of the hole with respect to the upper deck surface based on the deformation amount, and starts processing of the hole after the predetermined time. The predetermined time ends when a difference between a temperature near the hole and the temperature of the coolant falls within a predetermined range.
