In order to absorb an overtravel of the thermoactuator while improving compactness and the ease of manufacture, the overtravel spring bears against the housing and the thermostatic device comprises a rotary drive part in helical connection with the slide and being fixed in translation with respect to the secondary part.

A diffuser (18) is provided in the device (1) to disrupt the flow of hot water after it enters the device (1). The disrupted hot water emerges from the diffuser (18) into a chamber (20) in which it is melded with cold water that is able to enter the chamber (20) from the inlet (14) when a piston (22) is spaced from a seat (24). The melded hot and cold water result in tempered water that is discharged from the outlet (16). A temperature sensitive device (26) is provided, which is responsive to changes in ambient temperature. A temperature setting mechanism (52) is provided which is operatively associated with the temperature sensitive device (26) and permits the maximum temperature of the discharged tempered water to be adjusted.

In order for the base to remain simple and cost-effective to produce, while still favoring the flow of high fluid flow rates through it, the invention proposes to close, axially toward the outlet orifice, the first distribution channel by means of the spool and the second distribution channel by means of the attached piece.

The present invention limits fluid temperature at a point in a fluidic system to below a predetermined temperature by cooling the fluid when needed and without requiring a separate cold fluid source. The present invention “clips” the temperature of the fluid at a point in the system to within a temperature range and prevents overcooling the fluid. When the fluid temperature is below the temperature range, the temperature of the fluid is unchanged as it passes through the apparatus of the present invention. The present invention may operate without external power, can function in any orientation, and works for unpressurized and pressurized systems. The present invention has application in the areas of solar thermal energy systems, fluid tanks, engine oil and coolant systems, transmission fluid systems, hydraulic systems, machining fluid systems, cutting fluid systems, nuclear reactors and chemical reactors, among others.

The mixing device includes a plug member connected to the thermostatic actuating element and drivable along the operating direction through the effect of a contracting/dilating movement of the thermostatic actuating element for controlling the entry of first flow and second flow into the mixing chamber so as to maintain the third flow at the desired mixing temperature. The mixing device is removably housed in the cavity by coupling at least one abutting portion of the mixing device with at least one abutting surface of the cavity. On the valve body, in a position opposite to the outlet, an opening end is provided to enable the mixing device to be inserted into the cavity; the temperature adjusting device, in a coupling configuration is shaped for coupling with the mixing device along a coupling surface and for closing the opening end; the positioning element is configured for remaining in the set position with respect to the housing also in a decoupling configuration of the temperature adjusting device from the mixing device and from the valve body, so as to preserve, once the temperature adjusting device, the mixing device and the valve body have been subsequently recoupled, the calibration position corresponding to the desired mixing temperature.

Alternate embodiments include angled radial slots, angled surfaces and fin-like baffles to enhance the mixing of hot and cold fluids.
