ADAPTIVE GAIN FOR COMPENSATION IN A DIGITAL VOLTAGE REGULATOR
Embodiments herein relate to a feedback loop in a digital voltage regulator for controlling an output voltage. To avoid instability at light current loads, a gain of the loop is reduced as a power gate code indicates a reduced number of branches in set of current sources are enabled. In an example implementation, the code is classified into one range of a number of ranges, and the gain is set based on the one range. The gain can decrease each time the code enters a lower range, as indicated by the code crossing a threshold or predetermined value. For example, the gain can decrease by half each time the code enters a lower range.

Multi-deck circuits with common rails
A multi-deck circuit arrangement including a first deck circuit having a negative supply terminal and a second deck having a positive supply terminal connected to the negative supply terminal. A single power supply provides a voltage across both the first and second decks. The total power consumption will be less than the prior art of having both deck circuits conventionally regulated. The supply rail connecting the second deck's positive supply terminal to the first deck's negative supply terminal may be regulated. In one embodiment, the rail voltage can be controlled to optimize deck circuit operation for speed and power and to avoid level shifters when interfacing to other circuits.

Method and apparatus for implementing an unregulated dormant mode with an event counter in a power converter
A method for controlling an output of a power converter includes switching a switching element with drive signals that are generated for switching a switching element during normal operation when an energy requirement of one or more loads at the output are above a low-load threshold. A non-regulated dormant mode of operation is entered when the flow of energy to the output is detected to be less than the low-load threshold value for more than a first period of time. The control circuit is powered down when in the non-regulated dormant mode of operation the control circuit is unresponsive to stop regulating the flow of energy to the output of the power converter. The control circuit remains in the non-regulated dormant mode of operation for a second period of time before powering up again to resume generating the drive signal and regulating the flow of energy.
