DATA PROTECTION SYSTEM
Systems and methods for logically organizing data for storage and recovery on a data storage medium using a multi-level format are described. Embodiments include systems and methods for protecting data stored on a data storage medium so that the data may be recovered without errors.
HOT-READ DATA AGGREGATION AND CODE SELECTION
An apparatus comprises a memory and a controller. The memory generally comprises a plurality of memory modules, each having a size less than a total size of the memory and configured to store data. The controller may be configured to process a plurality of read/write operations, classify data pages from multiple blocks of the memory as hot-read data or non hot-read data, and aggregate the hot-read data by selecting one or more of the hot-read data pages from multiple memory blocks and mapping the selected hot-read data pages to dedicated hot-read data blocks using a strong type of error correcting code during one or more of a garbage collection state, a data recycling state, or an idle state. The aggregation of the hot-read data pages and use of the strong type of error correcting code reduces read latency of the hot-read data pages, reduces a frequency of data recycling of the hot-read data pages, and reduces an impact of read disturbs on endurance of the memory.
ERROR CORRECTION CODE MANAGEMENT OF WRITE-ONCE MEMORY CODES
Disclosed embodiments include an electronic device having a write-once memory (WOM) and a memory controller. The memory controller includes a host interface receiving a data word including first and second symbols, each having at least two bits, a WOM controller that encodes the first and second symbols and outputs a WOM-encoded word including first and second WOM codes corresponding to the first and second symbols, respectively, an error correction code (ECC) controller that encodes the WOM-encoded word and outputs an ECC-encoded word including the first and second WOM codes and a first set of ECC bits corresponding to a first write operation, and a memory device interface that writes the ECC-encoded word the WOM device in the first write operation. Each of the first and second WOM codes include at least three bits with at least two of the at least three bits having the same logic value.
Transmission failure feedback schemes for reducing crosstalk
Systems, apparatuses, and methods for transmission failure feedback associated with a memory device are described. A memory device may detect errors in received data and transmit an indication of the error when detected. The memory device may receive data and checksum information for the data from a controller. The memory device may generate a checksum for the received data and may detect transmission errors. The memory device may transmit an indication of detected errors to the controller, and the indication may be transmitted using a line that is different than an error detection code (EDC) line. A low-speed tracking clock signal may also be transmitted by the memory device over a line different than the EDC line. The memory device may transmit a generated checksum to the controller with a time offset applied to the checksum signaled over the EDC line.
Memory address protection circuit and method of operating same
A memory circuit includes: a memory configured to store a data unit and parity bits, the parity bits including data parity bits based on the data unit and write address parity bits based on a write address associated with the stored data unit; a write address port configured to receive the write address for the stored data unit; a first decoding circuit configured to determine when a data error exists based on the stored data unit and the data parity bits; a second decoding circuit configured to generate a decoded write address from a read address and the write address parity bits; and an error detecting circuit configured to determine when an address error exists based on a comparison of the decoded write address to the read address.
Data integrity for persistent memory systems and the like
A data processor includes provides memory commands to a memory channel according to predetermined criteria. The data processor includes a first error code generation circuit, a second error code generation circuit, and a queue. The first error code generation circuit generates a first type of error code in response to data of a write request. The second error code generation circuit generates a second type of error code for the write request, the second type of error code different from the first type of error code. The queue is coupled to the first error code generation circuit and to the second error code generation circuit, for provides write commands to an interface, the write commands including the data, the first type of error code, and the second type of error code.
Semiconductor memory devices, memory systems and methods of operating semiconductor memory devices
A semiconductor memory device includes a memory cell array, an error correction code (ECC) engine, a refresh control circuit, a scrubbing control circuit and a control logic circuit. The refresh control circuit generates refresh row addresses for refreshing a memory region on memory cell rows in response to a first command received from a memory controller. The scrubbing control circuit counts the refresh row addresses and generates a scrubbing address for performing a scrubbing operation on a first memory cell row of the memory cell rows whenever the scrubbing control circuit counts N refresh row addresses of the refresh row addresses. The ECC engine reads first data corresponding to a first codeword, from at least one sub-page in the first memory cell row, corrects at least one error bit in the first codeword and writes back the corrected first codeword in a corresponding memory location.
ERROR CONTAINMENT FOR ENABLING LOCAL CHECKPOINT AND RECOVERY
Various embodiments include a parallel processing computer system that detects memory errors as a memory client loads data from memory and disables the memory client from storing data to memory, thereby reducing the likelihood that the memory error propagates to other memory clients. The memory client initiates a stall sequence, while other memory clients continue to execute instructions and the memory continues to service memory load and store operations. When a memory error is detected, a specific bit pattern is stored in conjunction with the data associated with the memory error. When the data is copied from one memory to another memory, the specific bit pattern is also copied, in order to identify the data as having a memory error.
METHOD FOR ERROR CORRECTION CODING WITH MULTIPLE HASH GROUPINGS AND DEVICE FOR PERFORMING THE SAME
Various aspects include methods and devices for implementing the methods for error checking a memory system. Aspects may include receiving, from a row buffer of a memory, access data corresponding to a column address of a memory access, in which the row buffer has data of an activation unit of the memory corresponding to a row address of the memory access, determining multiple error correction codes (ECCs) for the access data using the column address, and checking the access data for an error utilizing at least one of the multiple ECCs. In some aspects, the multiple ECCs may include a first ECC having data from an access unit of the memory corresponding with the column address, and at least one second ECC having data from the access unit and data from the activation unit other than from the access unit.
Systems and methods for decoding error correcting codes with historical decoding information
Systems and methods are provided for decoding data read from non-volatile storage devices. A method may comprise receiving a chunk of data read from a physical location of a non-volatile storage device and searching a memory for soft information associated with the physical location using a unique identifier associated with the physical location. The soft information may be generated from one or more previous decoding processes on previous data from the physical location. The method may further comprise retrieving the soft information identified by the unique identifier associated with the physical location from the memory, decoding the chunk of data with the soft information indicating reliability of bits in the chunk of data and updating the soft information with decoding information generated during the decoding.
