Methods, systems, and devices for logic remapping techniques are described. A memory system may receive a write command to store information at a first logical address of the memory system. The memory system may generate a first entry of a logical-to-physical mapping that maps the first logical address with a first physical address that stores the information. The memory system may perform a defragmentation operation or other remapping operation. In such a defragmentation operation, the memory system may remap the first logical address to a second logical address, such that the second logical address is mapped to the first physical address. The memory system may generate a second entry of a logical-to-logical mapping that maps the first logical address with the second logical address.

The method includes moving content of a data block referenced by a logical block address (LBA) from a first physical block corresponding to a first physical block address (PBA) to a second physical block corresponding to a second PBA, wherein prior to the moving a logical map maps the LBA to a middle block address (MBA) and a middle map maps the MBA to the first PBA and in response to the moving, updating the middle map to map the MBA to the second PBA instead of the first PBA.

Metadata management in storage systems

Techniques are disclosed for managing metadata of a storage system. A storage control system receives data to be written to primary storage, and writes the received data together with metadata to a write cache. The storage control system destages the metadata from the write cache to a primary metadata structure which is configured to persistently store and index the metadata. The primary metadata structure comprises (i) a first data structure that is configured to accumulate the metadata destaged from the write cache and organize the accumulated metadata in blocks of metadata sorted by index keys, and (ii) a second data structure that is configured to receive the accumulated metadata from the first data structure, and organize the received metadata using an index structure that enables random-access to the metadata using the index keys.

Example implementations disclosed herein include techniques for a ready only bufferpool for use in local nodes of a multi-node computing system. Read only transactions executed by a processor can reference a ready only bufferpool resident in a VRAM on the same node. If the desired data page is in the bufferpool the transaction can immediately read data records from the cached data pages. If the desired data page is not in the bufferpool, then the transaction can cause a copy of a corresponding data page in a secondary memory to be installed in the bufferpool. The bufferpool can include more than one copy of a data page simultaneously to handle and prevent cache line misses. Data page are dropped from the bufferpool based on an incrementing per data page counter.

A file server apparatus includes a second file system volume including cache data of a first file system volume stored in a shared file storage apparatus. The file server apparatus determines the operation type indicated by an access request to the first file system volume from a client. When the operation type is directory operation, the file server sends an instruction of directory operation to the shared file storage apparatus, and then transmits a completion response to the client. When the operation type is file operation, the file server apparatus executes a file operation in the second file system volume, transmits a completion response to the client, and then transmits a file operation instruction to the shared file storage apparatus.

ACCESSING STORED METADATA TO IDENTIFY MEMORY DEVICES IN WHICH DATA IS STORED

A computer system stores metadata that is used to identify physical memory devices that store randomly-accessible data for memory of the computer system. In one approach, access to memory in an address space is maintained by an operating system of the computer system. Stored metadata associates a first address range of the address space with a first memory device, and a second address range of the address space with a second memory device. The operating system manages processes running on the computer system by accessing the stored metadata. This management includes allocating memory based on the stored metadata so that data for a first process is stored in the first memory device, and data for a second process is stored in the second memory device.

Methods and apparatus for persistent data structures

A method may include storing at least a portion of a metadata buffer of a persistent data structure in volatile memory, and storing at least a portion of a data buffer of the persistent data structure in persistent memory. A system may include a processor, a volatile memory coupled to the processor, and a persistent memory coupled to the processor. The processor may be configured to execute procedures including storing at least a portion of a metadata buffer of a persistent data structure in volatile memory, and storing at least a portion of a data buffer of the persistent data structure in persistent memory. A method may include storing at least a portion of a transient part of a persistent data structure in volatile memory, and storing at least a portion of a persistent part of the persistent data structure in persistent memory.

TECHNIQUES FOR METADATA UPDATING AND RETRIEVAL

Processing a read request to read metadata from an entry of a metadata page may include: determining whether the metadata page is cached; responsive to determining the metadata page is cached, obtaining the first metadata from the cached metadata page; responsive to determining the metadata page is not cached, determining whether the requested metadata is in a metadata log of metadata changes stored in a volatile memory; and responsive to determining the metadata is the metadata log of metadata changes stored in the volatile memory, obtaining the requested metadata from the metadata log. Processing a write request that overwrites an existing value of a metadata page with an updated value may include: recording a metadata change in the metadata log that indicates to update the metadata page with the updated value; and performing additional processing during destaging that uses the existing value prior to overwriting it with the updated value.
