A personal food inventory system (PFIS) allows for storage of food items in a personal inventory associated with a user account, as well as tracking of food items consumed by the user account. The PFIS is linked to an application for communicating between an account user and the PFIS items that are received into the personal inventory and items consumed or otherwise removed from the personal inventory. The PFIS is linked to one or more preferred vendors for easy entry of items into the personal inventory. The PFIS also provides recommendation of dishes the account user can prepare based on the personal food inventory and/or a vendor inventory associated with the preferred vendor. The PFIS further provides user notifications for items nearing their expiry date. The PFIS also provides notification to the account user regarding usage of the personal food inventory system by tracking consumption.

A system and method for facilitating inspection of fire alarm systems includes a graphical user interface rendered on a touchscreen display of a mobile computing device receiving selections of inspection results. The graphical user interface includes a testing pane, which indicates devices that are currently being tested, and a selection pane, which indicates devices yet to be tested. The devices indicated by the selection pane are filtered according to the inferred location of the inspector or the inferred order of test. Selection of devices indicated by the selection pane results in those devices being indicated by the testing pane. Results of inspections of the devices indicated by the testing pane are then selected by the touchscreen display detecting gestures (e.g. swipes toward the left or right) corresponding to different results. The results are sent to a connected services system and stored in a connected services database.

The described device allows a user to set preference and receive the preferences by simply allowing a payment device to communicate with a preference reader.

A method of payment using rewards is provided. The method includes detecting, by a mobile device of a customer, an authentication device based on a short range wireless communication between the mobile device and the authentication device; in response to detecting the authentication device, retrieving, by the mobile device, authentication data of the customer from the authentication device via the short range wireless communication; populating, by the mobile device, a graphical user interface displayed to the customer using the authentication data retrieved from the authentication device; receiving, by the mobile device, a selection from the customer to send the authentication data to an account management system; sending, by the mobile device, the authentication data to the account management system based on the received selection; and receiving, by the mobile device, a payment option for a transaction based on the customer being authenticated using the authentication data.

A secure indicator includes a substrate, a barcode symbol that has a plurality of barcode modules provided on the substrate, and a security material positioned proximate the barcode symbol on the substrate. The security material is configured to be activated by irradiation at one or more predetermined activation wavelengths. Additionally, the barcode symbol is configured to be read (i) before the security material is activated and (ii) while the security material is activated.

Further, the method may include storing, using a storage device, the net CO.sub.2e offset associated with the at least one recyclable item in a distributed ledger.

A portable electronic device having a touch screen with a floating soft trigger icon for enabling various functions of the electronic device, such as bar code reading, capturing RFID data, capturing video and images, calling applications, and/or placing phone calls. The floating trigger icon is displayed on the touch screen to enable easy identification and access of the trigger icon. The trigger icon may be selected via application of various unique control gestures to configure the electronic device. A method of tracking a container closure used to seal liquid in a container is provided, comprising applying a trackable indicia to a container closure, wherein the trackable indicia is unique to the container closure; recording an associated data set comprising a plurality of parameters related to the liquid in the container; correlating the associated data set with the trackable indicia; applying the container closure to the container to seal the liquid within the container; maintaining a database of the trackable indicia corresponding to the associated data set; and scanning the trackable indicia to retrieve the associated data set from the database. The method of the invention also includes utilization of a container closure having inherent natural imperfections and/or patterns on the top and/or sides of the closure and obtaining scanned images and data thereof which are analyzed and utilized for closure and container identification and likewise serve as scannable trackable indicia.

Transaction items for a transaction are received during a transaction. Any non-barcoded items are identified and processed within a retailer-specific vector space to identify a most-similar barcoded item offered by a corresponding retailer to the non-barcoded item. The transaction items are revised to include the most-similar barcoded item as a replacement for the non-barcoded item. The revised transaction item list is used to identify a recommended item based on a segment-specific vector space associated with a segment assigned to the transaction. The recommended item is provided in real time to a transaction service that processes the transaction for delivery to a customer associated with the transaction.
