A target denomination is designated from current denominations whose discrimination criterion information pieces are stored in a coin discrimination apparatus. Then, discrimination criterion information pieces for an additional denomination are calculated based on discrimination criterion information pieces for the target denomination, target denomination standard information pieces corresponding to the discrimination criterion information pieces for the target denomination, and additional denomination standard information pieces corresponding to the discrimination criterion information pieces for the additional denomination.

A coin validation apparatus includes: a conveyor conveying a coin; and a discriminator discriminating authenticity and denomination of the coin, the conveyor including: conveyor pulleys, conveyor belts each endlessly stretched between the conveyor pulleys, conveying members, each having left and right end portions attached to outer surfaces of the conveyor belts, conveying the coin rearwards in a manner laid flat and convey a coin, which has been discriminated by the discriminator as a counterfeit coin, frontwards in a manner laid flat; and guide members, provided on sides of the conveyor belts, preventing the conveying members from being separated from the conveyor belts.

Described is a method for providing measurement data for value documents to a specified purpose of use employing a value-document processing device which has a transport device for transporting the value documents, and a sensor device for capturing at least one property of value documents transported in the value-document processing apparatus by means of the transport device and forming measurement data describing the captured property, in which value documents are transported to the sensor device by means of the transport device and measurement data for these are respectively captured by means of the sensor device, it is tested whether the measurement data for the value documents meet a suitability criterion specified for the purpose of use, and measurement data for respectively one of the value documents either are permanently stored or discarded in dependence on the result of the testing.

A coin discrimination system eliminates the task of visiting the location of an existing coin depositing/dispensing machine to exchange an existing coin discrimination apparatus incorporated in the machine for a new one and the task of additionally setting a new coin discrimination criterion manually to the existing apparatus. A piece of new specific information is extracted from the pieces of sensor information about the setting coins. The piece of new discrimination criterion information is set using the piece of new specific information.
