A security device for an item of merchandise is provided. The security device includes a non-programmable locking mechanism comprising a mechanical lock and a programmable locking mechanism comprising a monitoring circuit operatively coupled to an alarm. The security device is configured to secure an item of merchandise from theft or removal when the mechanical lock is locked and to be separated from the item of merchandise when the mechanical lock is unlocked. The alarm is configured to provide an alarm signal if the security device is separated from the item of merchandise while the monitoring circuit is armed.

Systems and methods for theft reduction of grain are disclosed. A grain cart includes a theft detection system that monitors grain onboarded into the grain cart from a harvesting machine, and grain offloaded from the grain cart to a trailer. The theft detection system measures a weight value of the grain received from the harvesting machine, and transmits the weight value to a tracking system. Additionally, the theft detection system can receive an expected grain weight value from the harvesting machine and compare the measured weight value with the received weight value, and provide a notification (e.g., alarm) of the difference is greater than a predetermined threshold. The theft detection system can provide similar functions between weight values of grain in the grain cart and a trailer. Also, the theft detection system can encrypt transmit the weight values prior to transmitting to the tracking system.

Storage units including platforms that are outfitted with RFID antennas and auxiliary sensors detect changes in loading on the platforms based on changes in loading determined by the auxiliary sensors or changes in signals received by the RFID antennas. The platforms include surfaces for receiving items tagged with RFID transmitters thereon, such as items of common types and variable weights. An interaction involving the placement of an item on the platform, or the removal of the item from the platform, is detected by the auxiliary sensors. A monitoring system that is configured to monitor a property includes a connected scale device that is configured to receive a package, determine a weight of the package, and after determining the weight of the package, arm the connected scale device, and a monitoring control unit that is configured to receive, from the connected scale device, data indicating that the connected scale device received the package and the connected scale device is armed, and based on receiving the data indicating that the connected scale device received the package and the connected scale device is armed, communicate, to a user device of a resident of the property, a notification indicating that the connected scale device received the package.
