CONVERGENCE OF PERFORMANCE OF RFID DEVICES IN AN ELECTRONIC ARTICLE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM
RFID devices for use in electronic surveillance article (“EAS”) systems may be differently configured, resulting in different performance at the operating frequency or range of frequencies of an EAS system. The performance of differently configured RFID devices may be converged or rendered substantially similar by testing the performance of such RFID devices in a range of frequencies. At least one of the RFID devices is reconfigured to converge the performance of the RFID devices in the range of frequencies if the performance of the RFID devices is not sufficiently similar. This may include changing the configuration of an antenna, an RFID chip, and/or a non-functional component of an RFID device and/or the location in which an RFID device is associated to an article. Differently configured RFID devices may all be manufactured from the same initial configuration, with different RFID devices being differently processed before incorporation in an EAS system.
Systems and methods of alternating transmitter for metal foil detection near moving doors
A system may include a security controller communicatively coupled with pedestals having a first set of antennas and a second set of antennas spaced from the first set of antennas to form an interrogation zone. The security controller may be configured to alternate transmission and reception of interrogation signals between the first set of antennas and the second set of antennas. The security controller may be configured to determine whether a metal object is detected in the interrogation zone in response to the reception of the interrogation signals by the second set of antennas or by the first set of antennas. The security controller may be configured to generate and send an alarm signal in response to the metal object being detected in the interrogation zone.
Validating radio frequency identification (RFID) alarm event tags
An RFID portal of an EAS system first interrogates a first zone extending into a controlled area beyond a threshold distance from an interrogating antenna of the portal. The portal defines an exit from the controlled area, the threshold distance being less than a width of the exit. The portal first detects, in response to the first interrogating, a first response of a particular RFID tag. The portal second interrogate, subsequent to the first detecting, in a second zone extending into the controlled area at least to the threshold distance. The portal second detects, in response to the second interrogating, at least one second response of the particular RFID tag indicating a received signal strength of the second interrogating at the particular RFID tag corresponding to a distance from an interrogating antenna of the portal less than the threshold distance. The EAS system alarms in response to the second detecting.
ELECTRONIC THEFT-PREVENTING SYSTEM AND METHOD
An electronic theft-preventing system, including a first and a second multi-axis magnetometer and configured to output first and second vector signals representing movement of first and second magnetic field vectors; and a signal processor receiving the first and second vector signals, and configured to determine a multi-dimensional transformation, in accordance with optimization of a difference between the second vector signal and a compensation signal; wherein the compensation signal is generated from a transformation of the first vector signal in accordance with the multi-dimensional transformation; and generate a compensated second vector signal from the second vector signal and the first compensation signal. Determining that a detector signal meets a predefined criterion; and in response to at least the determining that the detector signal meets the predefined criterion, raising or forgo raising an alarm that warns about a possible theft-related event.
Wireless dual-mode identification tag
Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to a wireless identification tag for association with a product to enable product self-identification and system and methods for use thereof. In one implementation, the tag may include at least one antenna tuned to receive energy transmitted at one or more frequencies within certain frequency bands. The tag may also include at least one transmitter that may be configured to send at least one identification signal. The tag may also include at least one circuit. The at least one circuit may be configured to detect whether energy is received in a certain frequency band, and to cause the at least one transmitter to operate in a mode corresponding to the certain frequency band.
Appliances with integrated communication tags
Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to an appliance for holding electronically tagged products and for recording an association between the tagged products and the appliance, and system and methods for use thereof. In one implementation, the appliance may include a housing defining a cavity for retaining the electronically tagged products. The appliance may also include an exciter integrated with the housing and configured to trigger tags of the products to cause the tag of each product to transmit a unique tag ID. The appliance may also include a receiver for receiving transmission of each unique tag ID. The appliance may also include a communicator for outputting indications of identities of electronically tagged products retained in the cavity.
RANGE DISCRIMINATION IN AN RFID ELECTRONIC ARTICLE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM
RFID-based electronic surveillance article systems are provided with first and second receiving antennas. An RF signal is transmitted to an RFID device, which transmits a return signal that is received by the receiving antennas. A position of the RFID device may be determined based on a difference between the strength of the return signal when received by the first antenna and the strength of the return signal when received by the second antenna. If RF signals are transmitted by the receiving antennas, the position of the RFID device may be determined by changing the strengths of the RF signals transmitted by each antenna and comparing the strength of the RF signal transmitted by the first antenna when the RFID device is at a threshold for receiving the signal to the strength of the RF signal transmitted by the second antenna when the RFID device is at the threshold.
Variable RFID transmit power adjustment based on surrounding environment to enhance tag detection field
A method for operating a sensor includes receiving identification information from one or more electronic identification devices (EIDs) located in a vicinity of the sensor. A number of EIDs located in the vicinity of the sensor is determined based on the received identification information. A determination is made if the number of EIDs located in the vicinity of the sensor exceeds a first predefined threshold. Transmission power to the sensor is selectively adjusted based on the number of EIDs with respect to the first predefined threshold, in response to determining that the number of EIDs located in the vicinity of the sensor exceeds or is less than any number of predefined thresholds.
