ILLUMINATION DEVICE FOR A PROJECTOR COMPRISING A LIGHT MODULATOR
20170371150 · 2017-12-28 ·

An illumination device for a light modulated projector includes a first and a second colour wheel. A first filter surface of the first colour wheel comprises at least three first surface sections arranged one behind the other, which protrude into an illumination beam path of the illumination device successively on rotation and in each case convey illumination radiation of a different partial range of the visible wavelength range. At least one of the first surface sections of the first filter surface conveys illumination radiation from the infrared range. A second filter surface of the second colour wheel comprises a first surface segment which only conveys illumination radiation from the visible wavelength range and a second surface segment which only conveys illumination radiation from the infrared range. The first and second surface segments protrude into the illumination beam path successively on rotation.

NIGHT VISION IMAGINING SYSTEM ACUITY VERIFICATION TEST FIXTURE
20170230648 · 2017-08-10 ·

Method and apparatus for testing visual acuity of a night vision imaging system using a visual target. A fixture arranges a mirror a first distance from the night vision imaging system and arranges the visual target a second distance from the mirror. A sum of the first distance and the second distance equals a target distance between the night vision imaging system and the visual target. The fixture includes a starlight generator that can illuminate the visual target with simulated starlight and/or moonlight that stimulates the night vision imaging system.

Dynamically affecting tailored visual rendering of a visual element

Method and system for dynamically modifying visual rendering of a visual element in a computer generated environment from an interactive computer simulation is provided. Pre-defined visual characteristics are associated with the visual element. A tangible instrument module is used to provide one or more commands for controlling a simulated vehicle of the interactive computer simulation. At the interactive computer simulation station, dynamically affecting the visual element is performed by enhancing at least one of a visual contouring of the visual element and one or more pre-identified distinctive visual characteristics of the visual element. Tailoring parameters determined considering at least one of an identity of the trainee in the interactive computer simulation station and an identifier of the visual element are considering when dynamically affecting the visual element in real-time during execution of the interactive computer simulation prior to rendering the visual element for display.

System and method for improving safety when operating aircraft in reduced- or modified-visibility conditions

A system and method for improving safety when operating an aircraft in reduced or modified visibility conditions is disclosed. A flight helmet having a visor with an electrically controlled optical state is configured to automatically move the visor up out of the pilot's line of sight on receipt of a signal from a safety sensor. This sensor-based automated moving of the visor helps alleviate danger in circumstances where the visor is improperly hindering the pilot. The helmet can be used, for example, in reduced-visibility training sessions and thereby improve the safety of such sessions. And the helmet can be used with enhanced or synthetic vision systems as a failsafe if the systems are hindering rather than helping the pilot.
