Percussive response unit
A percussive response unit, and percussion instruments with same, including a rod having a rod shaft and a first retaining element, such a first head, disposed at a first rod end and having a first head width. At least a first striker set of at least one striker is disposed along a first portion of the rod shaft and is positionable near the first head. Each striker defines an opening that is larger than the outer diameter of the rod shaft to enable at least one direction of movement. A second retaining element such as a second head is connected to the second rod end to secure the first striker set on the rod shaft. Other embodiments include percussion instruments with multiple internal resonance cavities, internal resonance members, and internal and/or external strikers.
CONTROLLED DENSITY-GRADIENT TIMPANI PERCUSSION MALLETS
A timpani percussion mallet for use with a timpani musical instrument by a timpani player, the mallet comprising: a shaft having a first end that is for a timpani player to hold, and also having an opposite second end that is for the timpani player striking a part of the timpani musical instrument, wherein the shaft comprises at least one tube with outer walls, wherein the tube contains within the outer walls a plurality of segments including a first segment comprising a first solid segment material and a second solid segment comprising a second segment material different from the first solid segment material, and optional additional segments with optional additional solid segment materials, wherein the first and second segments are each non-movable within the tube, wherein the first segment is located closer to the first end, and the second segment is located closer to the second end, wherein the first segment and the second segment have different densities to provide the timpani percussion mallet and shaft with a controlled density gradient to control center of mass, moment of inertia, and/or vibration mitigation for the timpani percussion mallet. A palette of mallets and sounds are provided for the elite player.
PORTABLE TIMPANI GAUGE
A timpani gauge with a gauge body, drum clips, a pedal clip, and a string. The gauge body has a channel and a groove adjacent to the channel. At least one knob is positioned within and configured to slide along the channel. The drum clips are attached to the gauge body and may have a magnet configured to couple with a rim of a timpani. The pedal clip attaches to a foot pedal of the timpani. The string attaches to the pedal clip, slidingly couples with the groove of the gauge body, and attaches to a weight to suspend the weight from the gauge body. The string has an indicator adjacent to the gauge body. When the string is attached to the foot pedal through the pedal clip, the string is configured to move the indicator with respect to the gauge body when the foot pedal is raised or lowered.
