TONE-ENHANCING DRUM SHELL AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING SAME
A drum having modified tone qualities is provided. The drum has a generally cylindrical inner shell positioned within a generally cylindrical outer shell. The inner shell has at least one sound-transmitting aperture defined therethrough so that the sound-transmitting aperture provides an unobstructed passageway for sound waves to pass through to reach the outer shell. In some aspects, an insert for modifying the tone qualities of a drum is provided. In some aspects, the outer shell has one or more inwardly extending protrusions co-located with and extending through the at least one sound transmitting aperture.
Monolithic composite drum shell
Methods of making, and the resultant monolithic drum shell for a musical instrument, that include selecting one or more desired wood fibers, providing a resinous binder solution, and immersing the wood fibers within the resinous binder solution for a duration that saturates and covers the wood fibers with the resinous binder solution to form a drum shell liquid composition. The drum shell liquid composition is deposited into a mold, and then cured to form a monolithic composite drum shell. The monolithic composite drum shell is removed from the mold to provide a ready-to-use drum shell for assembling into a musical instrument.

Handpan
A handpan comprises a hollow base body, composed of a lower shell and an upper shell, each in the form of a spherical segment, which are connected to one another, preferably glued, at their mutually facing outer edges, a basic tone field preferably arranged centrally on the upper shell, further tone fields arranged annularly on the upper shell, preferably around the basic tone field, a resonance opening in the lower shell, and at least one further resonance opening in the lower shell, wherein the at least two resonance openings are arranged decentrally in the lateral rising zone of the lower shell.

THREE-PLY DRUM SHELL WITH AERATED CORE
A drum shell for enhancing the sound and tone qualities of a drum is provided. The drum shell has an outer band, an inner band, and an aerated core interposed therebetween. In one aspect, the core defines a plurality of spaces each providing a sound tube for vibrating air contained within the spaces.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR PRODUCTION OF HANDPANS
Disclosed herein are methods for hydroforming a handpan shell. Hydroforming a handpan shell using a mold complementary to the intended shape of the handpan shell can improve the quality and performance of the handpan while reducing the time and cost needed to form features into the handpan that allow musical tones to be produced.
