Encrypted data key in medium auxiliary memory
A method for securing user data that is stored to a tape cartridge having a medium auxiliary memory (MAM) is described. When user data is sent to a tape library from a client, the tape library sends a request to a cloud based key management service for a data key to encrypt the user data and an encrypted data key that corresponds to the data key. The data key is used to encrypt the user data which is then stored to the tape cartridge and the encrypted data key is stored to the MAM. Upon decrypting the encrypted user data, the encrypted data key is extracted from the MAM and sent to the cloud based key management service where it is used to produce the data key from the cloud based key management service which is then sent to the tape library. When the tape library is in possession of the data key, the encrypted data in the tape cartridge can then be decrypted and sent to a requester of the user data.
ENCRYPTED DATA KEY IN MEDIUM AUXILIARY MEMORY

Multimedia storage systems and methods
An article of manufacture includes a machine-readable medium that stores a multimedia content file in a first format and multiple program sets. Each program set is a version of software that, when executed by a respective electronic system, produces the multimedia content file in a second format for use in the respective electronic system. A first program set is compatible with a first operating system executed by a first electronic system and a second program set is compatible with a second operating system executed by a second electronic system. The second operating system is distinct from the first operating system.
Protection of content based on encryption
To realize a configuration to output content to a medium and to use the content stored in the medium under control of the use of content. A content-output-device outputs an encrypted content and an encryption key to be applied to the using process to the medium, and a management server generates a media ID verification value based on a media ID that is an identifier of the medium and transmits the value to the medium. The medium stores the encrypted content, the encryption key, and the media ID verification value in a storage unit. A reproduction device loads the medium and calculates a verification value based on the media ID acquired from the medium, and executes a reproducing process of the encrypted content stored in the medium by data processing to which the encryption key is applied on condition that a matching process performed between the verification value and the media ID verification value stored in the medium is established.
Method for generating a secure copy of media data
A system for transferring verified media data. The system comprising: an item of content storing the media data, and having an associated serial number; a computing device including a first storage device and a network interface; a secure copying application program; a secure copy of the media data generated by the secure copying application program and stored on the first storage device; a verification server including a serial number database and having a network connection to the computing device through the network interface, wherein the secure copying application program generates the secure copy after verifying the serial number is valid and active by communicating with the verification server; and a portable copy of the media data, including license information, generated from the secure copy by the secure copying application program.
