A dielectric fluid (i.e., dielectric composition) that includes a perfluorinated 1-alkoxypropene compound represented by the following general Formula (I): R.sub.fO—CF═CFCF.sub.3 wherein R.sub.f is CF.sub.3— or CF.sub.3CF.sub.2—. Such dielectric fluids may be useful in various electrical devices.

Dielectric fluids for linear switched capacitive devices
A dielectric fluid includes a first liquid having first dielectric constant and conductivity values. The dielectric fluid also includes a second liquid having second dielectric constant and conductivity values. The first dielectric constant value is greater than the second dielectric constant value and the second electrical conductivity value is less than the first electrical conductivity value. The first and second liquids form an immiscible mixture that has third dielectric constant and conductivity values between the first and second dielectric constant values and the first and second electrical conductivity values, respectively. The first liquid forms a high conductivity phase representative of the first conductivity value, and the second liquid forms a low conductivity phase representative of the second conductivity value. The low conductivity phase is continuous the high conductivity phase is a plurality of droplets non-homogeneously dispersed within, and separated by, the continuous low conductivity phase.

A dielectric fluid includes a first liquid having first dielectric constant and conductivity values. The dielectric fluid also includes a second liquid having second dielectric constant and conductivity values. The first dielectric constant value is greater than the second dielectric constant value and the second electrical conductivity value is less than the first electrical conductivity value. The first and second liquids form an immiscible mixture that has third dielectric constant and conductivity values between the first and second dielectric constant values and the first and second electrical conductivity values, respectively. Dielectric fluid compositions for enhanced thermal management
A dielectric fluid composition for electrical apparatus comprises a functionalized 12-hydroxy stearic acid having desirable properties including a pour point less than −30° C. and a fire point greater than 250° C. It may be prepared by a process wherein 12-hydroxy methyl stearate is transesterified by reaction with a C3-C20 alcohol to form an alkyl-12-hydroxy stearate, followed by esterification thereof with a linear or branched C4-C20 carboxylic acid. This acid may be a free acid chloride, a fatty acid, a carboxylic acid anhydride, or combination thereof. The resulting functionalized 12-hydroxy stearic acid exhibits improved thermoxidative capability, low temperature flowability, and increased fire point.

The present invention relates to an electrical apparatus having an insulating space which contains a dielectric insulation fluid comprising an organofluorine compound. At least one solid component of the apparatus that is directly exposed to the insulation fluid contains a basic body made of a first material and a protective layer made of a second material different from the first material, the protective layer being directly or indirectly applied on the basic body and having a thickness of at least 50 μm. The organofluorine compound is selected from the group consisting of: fluoroethers, fluoroketones, fluoroolefins, fluoronitriles, and mixtures thereof, and the first material comprises or consists of a material selected from the group consisting of: a polymeric material, a ceramic, a composite material, and mixtures or combinations thereof.

Disclosed is a mixture comprising the compound trans-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene and at least one additional compound selected from the group consisting of HFOs, HFCs, HFEs, CFCs, CO2, olefins, organic acids, alcohols, hydrocarbons, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, and others such as methyl formate, formic acid, trans-1,2 dichloroethylene, carbon dioxide, cis-HFO-1234ze+HFO-1225yez; mixtures of these plus water; mixtures of these plus CO2; mixtures of these trans 1,2-dichloroethylene (DCE); mixtures of these plus methyl formate; mixtures with cis-HFO-1234ze+CO2; mixtures with cis-HFO-1234ze+HFO-1225yez+CO2; and mixtures with cis-HFO-1234ze+HFC-245fa. Also disclosed are methods of using and products of using the above compositions as blowing agents, solvents, heat transfer compositions, aerosol propellant compositions, fire extinguishing and suppressant compositions.
