The insulation layer is a composite material including ceramic particles embedded in a polymer matrix. The ceramic particles and polymers are chosen such that the ceramic particles start to sinter together at a temperature lower than the complete decomposition of the polymer chains. When the cable is exposed to heat and flame the polymer degrades, the ceramic particles sinter together and the insulation layer becomes a continuous sintered ceramic layer that both insulates and supports the conductor for improved circuit integrity.
